The last week was very important for the strengthening of relations between EDP Renováveis, the fourth largest wind and solar energy producer in the world, and Vestas, a leading company in the manufacture, sale, installation and maintenance of wind turbines.

The companies finalized the first edition of their joint professional qualification program, Keep It Local, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte.

The course was held in partnership with SENAI-RN, the National Service for Industrial Learning, and trained a total of 25 people in the areas of renewable energies, with more than half of the group being women.

The program was carried out free of charge by the companies, and both confirmed their interest in carrying out new editions of the professional qualification course in the region.

According to Vestas and EDP Renováveis, the main objective of the initiative is to boost the qualification of workers in rural areas and expand employability in the renewable energy sector.

Rio Grande do Norte is the leading state in the production of wind energy on land, and more and more new investments are needed to boost professional qualification in the region.

“The renewable energy sector is not only fundamental in the fight against climate change. It is also a source of sustainable local employment that contributes to the enrichment of rural areas. That's why we are proud that the Keep it Local program is achieving this impact and adherence of the local population”, comments Duarte Bello, COO of EDP Renováveis for Europe and Latin America.

The executive also reinforced the company's commitment to the socioeconomic development of the areas where EDP Renováveis currently operates.

Diplomas from the first edition of the Keep It Local professional qualification program were delivered last week to 25 students

In all, the Vestas and EDP Renováveis professional qualification program offered 25 scholarships in the region, to 13 women and 12 men, training 100% of those enrolled in the area of renewable energies.

The delivery of diplomas took place last week, in a ceremony held at the Community Development Association of the Municipality of Caiçara do Rio do Vento, with the participation of local authorities, such as Mayor Conceição de Maria Gomes Lisboa Rocha.

The first edition of Keep It Local had the participation of some Vestas employees to address the topic, and was complemented by a visit by the group to the Service and Training Center in Parnamirim.

The president of Vestas for Latin America, Eduardo Ricotta, commented that he is proud to participate in the project and hopes that the company can continue to contribute to employability and professional qualification in the state of Rio Grande do Norte.
