The Volkswagen Alert
Volkswagen has recommended that owners of the Atlas (2020-2021) and Atlas Cross Sport (2020-2024) SUVs do not use the front passenger seat, due to life-threatening risks related to airbag failure.
According to a company statement, the passenger airbag may not be activated in the event of an accident, leaving occupants vulnerable.
According to Volkswagen, a warning on the car's dashboard is triggered when there are real problems with the airbag system.
However, the company emphasizes that drivers avoid carrying passengers in the front seat until the problem is resolved. Driving alone or with passengers in the back seats is safe.
Volkswagen's solution
To correct the problem, Volkswagen will replace the passenger presence detection system and adjust the sensors that control the activation of the front airbag on the right side.
This measure aims to ensure the safety and confidence of drivers and passengers of the affected SUVs.
Volkswagen Atlas: The American Giant
In the USA, the Volkswagen Atlas is a prominent SUV, considered the brand's top of the line.
It comes equipped with an engine 2.0 TSI four-cylinder turbo petrol, with 4MOTION traction options or front-wheel drive only.
Previously, the model had a 2.5 VR6 engine, which was discontinued after the last visual redesign.
Global Variants
Interestingly, in China, the Volkswagen Atlas is marketed as the Teramont, while the Cross Sport is known as the Teramont X.
These differences reflect Volkswagen's regional market strategies, adapting your vehicles to local preferences.
Impact on Brazil
It is worth noting that neither the Volkswagen Atlas nor the Atlas Cross Sport were sold in Brazil, therefore, Brazilian consumers are not affected by this recall.
However, the situation raises questions about the reliability and safety of vehicles from the German brand. This recall news generated diverse reactions among owners of Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport SUVs.
Many expressed concern about the safety of their vehicles, while others expressed confidence in Volkswagen to resolve the issue quickly.
As mentioned, this is not the first recall of SUVs from Volkswagen related to airbags. In a previous situation, the automaker also had to issue a recall to correct similar problems.
This recurrence of problems can impact consumers’ perception of the brand.
