Votorantim Cimentos signed a contract to acquire 100 average MW of solar energy from Atlas Renewable Energy, aiming for a decarbonization journey.
Votorantim Cimentos reached an agreement to acquire solar energy from Atlas Renewable Energy, with the objective of supplying an average of 100 MW of energy over 15 years to its units located in the South, Southeast and Center-West of Brazil. This volume will supply around a third of Votorantim Cimentos' energy consumption in the country, which is equivalent to supplying energy to 424 thousand homes.
The energy purchase contract was carried out using the self-production model through matching and the energy will be generated by the Luiz Carlos Solar Project, located in Paracatu (MG). This initiative reinforces Votorantim Cimentos' commitment to sustainability and the search for clean energy solutions, contributing to the reduction of its carbon footprint and the preservation of the planet.
Votorantim Cimentos and solar energy
When it comes into operation, the park will have capacity installed of 787 MWp, of which almost two thirds (470 MWp) will be allocated to Votorantim Cimentos.

Votorantim Cimentos and the decarbonization journey
According to Álvaro Lorenz, global director of Sustainability at Votorantim Cimentos, the acquisition of renewable energy is an important step in the construction company's decarbonization journey.
'In all company units where we operate, our focus is to intensify efficiency and incorporate the use of renewable energy, increasing volume of self-produced clean energy that we consume and, consequently, our competitiveness, generating benefits for society and the planet’, he says.
Votorantim Cimentos’ goals
Votorantim Cimentos' goal is to have 45% of the energy consumed globally come from renewable sources until 2030. With this new project, 75% of the energy consumed by the company in Brazil will come from clean sources.
Votorantim Cimentos is committed to the inclusion of photovoltaic solar energy in its operations, and the agreement with Atlas Renewable Energy in Minas Gerais for a solar energy PPA is another step in this direction. This partnership will allow the construction company to reduce its energy consumption and promote sustainability in its activities.
