If you've always dreamed of going to college without paying a penny, this is your chance! The Federal Institute of Maranhão (IFMA) has just opened more than 200 places for undergraduate courses on five different campuses, offering an unmissable opportunity for those who want to enter higher education at no cost.

On Friday (19), IFMA published the notice for the simplified selection process for admission to undergraduate courses in the 2nd semester of 2024. There are 265 places distributed between the campuses of Alcântara, Bacabal, Caxias, São Luís – Monte Castelo and Timon.

Registration is free and can be done online from July 24th to August 22nd. Candidates can use Enem scores from any of the last five editions (2019-2023) to apply for a place, but only one course per person is allowed.

Distribution of Vacancies by Campus

No Alcântara Campus, 40 places are available for the Technology in Management Processes course, in the evening. O Bacabal Campus offers 40 places for the Bachelor's Degree in Administration, also at night. At the Caxias Campus, there are 80 places divided between the Bachelor's degree in Chemistry (evening/evening) and the Bachelor's degree in Animal Science (evening).

O Campus São Luís – Monte Castelo offers 70 places distributed among the Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Information Systems courses, all in the afternoon/evening period. At the Timon Campus, 35 places are offered for the Internet Systems Technology course, in the evening.

Quota System and Social Inclusion

The IFMA quota system is quite comprehensive and ensures that at least 50% of the vacancies are allocated to candidates who completed high school in public schools. Among these reserved vacancies, half are for candidates with a gross family income equal to or less than the minimum wage per capita, while the other half are open to all income groups.

Furthermore, within the reserve for public school graduates, 79,84% of vacancies are reserved for self-declared black, brown and indigenous candidates; 9,10% for people with disabilities; and 3,97% for quilombolas.

Regardless of the calculation of the reserve of places, at least one place will be guaranteed for each group of quotas per course and shift. IFMA also ensures 2,5% of total vacancies for candidates with disabilities, without considering educational origin, income or race/ethnicity.

Federal Institute Selection Process Calendar

Registration runs from July 24th to August 22nd, followed by the publication of the list of participating candidates and competition for each course on August 26th. The list of candidates who will undergo hetero-identification will be published on August 28th, with the preliminary result of this stage scheduled for September 4th. On the same day, the candidates' scores will be announced in alphabetical order.

The deadline for appeals against an unfavorable opinion on hetero-identification and/or scoring results will be from September 5th to 8th. The final result and the list of surpluses will be published on September 13th.

Enrollment for successful candidates will take place from September 16th to 25th. If there are remaining places, the first call for surplus will be on September 1th, with registrations from September 27th to October 30th. The 4nd call, if necessary, will take place on October 2th, and registration for those called up will take place from October 7th to 8th.

Hello, good morning! My comment is actually an appeal. I am 41 years old and I dream of taking a bachelor's degree in mathematics, but I have never taken the Enem exam, and I also cannot afford to go to college because of an illness that I have to treat and always have medical care. It is not cheap. I want to become a professional so that I can work and maintain my treatment without depending on government aid. The medication that the government provides me is already enough. I would not be able to afford this medication because it is so expensive. If there is an institution that is willing to provide it, I would be grateful, but it would have to be online.
I just want to focus on something useful, to divert from the health problem.
