O BNDES (National Bank for Economic and Social Development) announced this Thursday (26) the release of R$ 180 million from the Amazon Fund for fire departments of the states of Amapá, Amazonas, Pará e Roraima . This amount is part of a total of R $ million 405 , approved at the end of last year, to support corporations operating in prevention and control of fires in forest areas. Previously, Acre and Rondônia had already received resources for this purpose, according to the website noticiasr7.

Supporting the frontline against the fires

The resource allocated by the Amazon Fund is essential to improve the infrastructure of fire departments , responsible for dealing with forest fires in Legal Amazon . Over 90% of the resources go to the purchase of equipment , such as trucks, drones and other essential devices. Also included is the construction of new operational bases , like three in the Amazon and a battalion in Roraima . And it doesn't stop there: the investment also involves improvements to existing facilities, helping to prepare firefighters to face increasingly greater challenges.

Furthermore, BNDES states that the resource will be used to train public agents , ensuring that they know how to act quickly and efficiently in critical situations. prevention will also be strengthened, with educational campaigns to raise awareness among the population about the risks of fires. After all, “prevention is better than cure”, right?

Burning fires that do not give respite

Between the days September 1st and 25th , Amazon registered 39.804 fires , according to data from Inpe (National Institute for Space Research). This equates to an average of 1.592 fires per day , an alarming number that has caused huge losses , estimated at $ 14,7 billion em 2,8 million hectares of rural properties.

The federal government, noting the gravity of the situation, also took an important step last week. The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed a provisional measure that releases R $ million 514 for emergency fire-fighting actions. These resources will be distributed among several ministries, including the Ministry of Justice . Environment and Defender , reinforcing the government's action against the fires that threaten the region.

Amazon Fund: a force behind investments

O Amazon Fund , administered by BNDES, is one of the main tools for financing for the preservation of the Amazon. It was created with the aim of collecting donations and applying these resources in prevention projects, combating deforestation and, of course, in facing the burned . With these R $ million 405 , the fund strengthens the actions of the states of Legal Amazon , who need support to protect the world’s largest tropical forest.

It's no secret that the Amazon plays a vital role in the planet's climate balance, and the fires there have a global impact. Hence the importance of initiatives like this, which focus on prevention and monitoring of the risk areas. Of course, with the educational campaigns , the government hopes that the population will collaborate, reducing the practice of illegal burning that is so damaging to the environment.

What to expect from the future?

With the new bases, equipment and more qualified agents, the expectation is that the fight against fires will become more efficient in the coming months. The goal of BNDES and the states of Legal Amazon is not just about containing the forest fires that are already underway, but also prevent new outbreaks . After all, the more structured the Fire Department , the greater the chances of mitigate environmental damage and protect the region’s biodiversity.

However, the challenge is great, and the support of the population and organizations is crucial. The Amazon Fund will continue to be a key player in this fight, and with the recent release of R $ million 180 , the benefited states are better prepared to face a burning season.

So, the next time you hear about an action by firefighters in the Amazon, remember: there is a lot of work, sweat and dedication behind it, and now, with a little extra push from BNDES and the Amazon Fund.
