The National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) approved the commercial operation of four 3,4 MW wind turbines from the Ventos de Vila Paraíba II wind farm, in the municipality of Serra do Mel, located in Rio Grande do Norte, totaling approximately 13,8 MW of installed capacity.
Aneel performs several activities to ensure that the electricity sector develops in a balanced way and to the benefit of society. A agency creates the rules for the generation, transmission, distribution and commercialization of energy, as well as promotes auctions and authorizes undertakings and electricity services in the country.
In addition to the authorization for the operation of new wind turbines in Serra do Mel, RN, Aneel also released two 4,2 MW generating units for testing, totaling 8,4 MW of power, for the operation of the Vila Piauí III wind farm, also located in the same city.

It is not new that the Brazilian Northeast receives wind and other renewable energy projects.
