Work on the bioceanic route is progressing at a rapid pace; the largest bridge between Brazil and Paraguay connects four countries and promises to reduce distances by up to 8.000 km.

If you thought you had seen it all when it came to engineering, prepare to be amazed! The largest bridge between Brazil and Paraguay is taking shape at a rapid pace, and work on the bioceanic route continues. The monumental Bioceanic Bridge is already 60% complete, promising to revolutionize the connection between South American countries.

The Bioceanic Bridge It is considered one of the largest and most important works on the bioceanic route. With a total length of 1.294 meters, it will connect the cities of Porto Murtinho, in Mato Grosso do Sul, and Carmelo Peralta, in Paraguay. This colossal structure will allow direct connections between Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina and Chile, reducing distances by up to 8.000 km and reducing travel time by up to 15 days for exports destined for the Asian market.

On the Brazilian side, construction work on the largest bridge between Brazil and Paraguay continues

On the Brazilian side, the works are progressing rapidly. The installation of the prestressed longitudinal beams, which come from Paraguay and travel a long distance to the construction site, has already begun. In addition, The pre-slabs are being installed, forming the base of the bridge deck, which will later receive concrete. The mast, a fundamental structure that will support the steel cables of the guyed part, also presents significant advances.

On the Paraguayan side, progress is even more notable. The masts are already in the final phase of construction, close to the top where the stays will be fixed. The bridge will have a central section of 630 meters built using the cable-stayed bridge method., which requires precision and balance in the installation of the staves and steel cables.

Works on the bioceanic route are not limited

The works on the bioceanic route are not limited to the bridge. On the Paraguayan side, construction is underway on Picada 500, connecting Mariscal Estigarribia to Pozo Hondo, on the border with Argentina. This stage faces challenges due to the terrain conditions, requiring special treatments for the execution of the base and asphalt.

Meanwhile, access to the bridge is about to begin. Scheduled to begin soon, the access works will include the construction of a ring road that will connect BR-267 to the new bridge, passing outside the city of Porto Murtinho. With an investment of more than R$472 million from the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC), this phase will also include the installation of customs control posts.

The largest bridge between Brazil and Paraguay is being built by the PYBRA consortium

The largest bridge between Brazil and Paraguay is being built by the PYBRA consortium, formed by the companies Tecnoedil, Construtora Cidade and Paulitec. The bridge is scheduled to be completed in December 2025, with access roads being completed a year later.

The construction of the bioceanic route represents a milestone in South American integration. By connecting the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific, the route promises to make Brazilian exports more competitive, reducing costs and travel times. The expectation is that this new infrastructure will strengthen trade between the countries involved and boost the economic development of the region.

And you, how do you think the largest bridge between Brazil and Paraguay will impact the economy and integration of South American countries? Leave your opinion in the comments!
