The project, which aims to end dependence on ferries, brings with it the hope of a new economic era for the region. However, behind this progress, a tragic incident has raised an alarm.

The identity of the victim has not been revealed, and the circumstances of the accident are still under investigation by the competent authorities.
In note, the Government of Paraná deeply regretted the loss, highlighting that the worker was working “in favor of the dream of the people of Paraná”, referring to the importance of this bridge for the development of the region. “The State and the consortium responsible for the work will provide full support to the victim’s family”, said the government.
Construction progress: challenges and expectations
As the CPG has been publishing, the bridge that is being built It is one of the largest infrastructure works on the coast of Paraná. With a budget of R$386,9 million, the project aims to eliminate recurring traffic problems between Guaratuba and Matinhos, caused by the dependence on ferries. Currently, ferry transportation is one of the biggest obstacles for residents and tourists, especially during the high season.
According to the Paraná Highway Department (DER/PR), the bridge will be 1.244 meters long. and will have four lanes of traffic, as well as cycle paths and pedestrian areas. The project is expected to be completed in 2026, but the delays and problems encountered so far raise doubts about the viability of this schedule.
At the time, about 17% of the work has already been completed, with 14 of the 64 concrete piles installed. This means there is a lot of work ahead, and the tight schedule does not allow for large margins of error.
Advances and legal obstacles
In August, a lawsuit that threatened to halt the work was temporarily suspended. The action brought by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio) raised questions about the environmental impact of the construction, but the Regional Federal Court of the 4th Region (TRF4) granted a period of 60 days for the impasse to be resolved.
Thereby, 46% of the total value of the work has already been committed, ensuring approximately R$178 million is available for the project to continue. This means that, despite the obstacles, financing is guaranteed and authorities are confident that it will be completed within the stipulated deadline.
The local impact and residents’ expectations
The local population is optimistic about the construction of the bridge. According to a survey by the Paraná Institute for Economic and Social Development (Ipardes), 97,9% of residents and tourists approve of the project, hoping that the project will boost tourism and facilitate emergency response. Business owners and merchants also have high expectations, expecting a significant increase in the flow of visitors after the bridge is completed.
What to expect until 2026?
In the coming months, the construction of the Guaratuba bridge will enter crucial phases. Completing the foundations and support piles will be essential to maintaining the 2026 delivery schedule. However, the doubt still remains: Will this gigantic project be completed on time and fulfill all the promises made so far? The answer lies in the future, and the population is anxiously following each new development.
Now, the question remains: will the challenges faced in building the Guaratuba bridge be greater than expected, or will we see an example of success in Brazilian infrastructure? Leave your opinion in the comments!
