Chinese automaker GAC accelerates electric vehicle production with AI technology and smart logistics, promising to build a car every 53 seconds at its new factory
China is determined to become a global leader in the production of electric vehicles, and GAC (Guangzhou Automobile Group) is one of the big names in this race. The Chinese automaker not only seeks to increase the number of vehicles manufactured, but it is also investing heavily in technological innovations to significantly speed up the production process. GAC's new factory, located in Changsha, Hunan province, is a clear example of this ambition, promising to build an electric car every 53 seconds, according to the Olhar Digital website.
Technology and innovation to accelerate production
Changsha factory is equipped with cutting-edge technologies, including advanced artificial intelligence (AI) modeling and simulation systems. These features enable a 25% reduction in troubleshooting time during production, in addition to a 30% saving in used space. AI plays a crucial role in identifying and resolving bottlenecks in the production process more efficiently, allowing the assembly line to operate with greater speed and precision.
In addition to AI innovations, GAC implemented a intelligent logistics system that increases delivery accuracy by 40% of components necessary for the assembly of vehicles. This means that each part arrives at the exact location at the right time., minimizing delays and errors. Consequently, the delivery time of finished vehicles is reduced by 25%, contributing to the impressive production speed of a new car every 53 seconds.

The first model: second generation Aion V
The first model to roll off the new factory's production line is the Aion V second generation, an electric SUV launched in China in July 2024. With a starting price of approximately 16.462 euros (or around R$100 thousand), the Aion V has been well received in the Chinese market, standing out for its modern design, competitive autonomy and advanced driver assistance technologies. In the first month of operation of the factory, 9 thousand vehicles were produced, a sample of the production capacity that the unit is achieving.
GAC's expectation is that the factory reaches its maximum capacity in early 2025, when will it be producing around 200 thousand vehicles per year. With this new unit, GAC expects increase its share of the electric vehicle market, both in China and globally.
Expansion and full production capacity
The new factory in Changsha is the GAC's third production facility dedicated to electric vehicles in China. The other two factories combined have a annual production capacity of 400 thousand vehicles. With the addition of the new unit, GAC expects achieve a total capacity of 600 thousand vehicles per year in Chinese territory, consolidating its position as one of the main electric car manufacturers in the country.
Despite the innovations and the impressive production rate, GAC still does not hold the title of fastest manufacturer in the world. Automakers like Ford and Tesla hold this record, with the ability to manufacture vehicles in 49 seconds and 40 seconds, respectively. However, GAC's advancement demonstrates China's commitment to not just participating in, but leading the electric vehicle sector.
