Canadian authorities have approved BP's plans to drill a well at the Aspy D-11 well offshore Nova Scotia.
BP will use Seadrill's West Aquarius drill rig to drill a secondary well away from the original well. The equipment will not be changing position for the diversion pit. The well is located approximately 330 kilometers southeast of Halifax, Nova Scotia. The same surface location and infrastructure (including the wellhead) of the Aspy D-11 will be used for the diversion well (Aspy D-11A). However, instead of continuing to drill vertically, the drilling will exit slightly to one side, BP said.
The lower portion of the Aspy D-11 well from which the diversion is being cemented and plugged, and preparations are underway to begin the lateral diversion.

The British oil company, at the end of July, resumed drilling operations at the Aspy D-11 well after having stopped earlier due to the discovery of an underwater leak. Repairs and integrity tests have since been completed and it has been determined that the cause of the leak was a loose booster line connection to the riser.
