The first day of the 8th ABM Week highlights sustainability in the industry. During the technical-scientific week, which celebrates the 80th anniversary of the Brazilian Association of Metallurgy, Materials and Mining (ABM), the circular economy and renewable strategies to promote sustainability and longevity of companies.
With the worsening of climate change and its devastating effects, the search for environmentally friendly solutions becomes increasingly urgent. The adoption of sustainable practices is essential to mitigate these impacts and ensure the preservation of ecosystems. This event, which will take place from September 3 to 5, 2024, in São Paulo, will promote debates to encourage environmentally friendly development in the metallurgy, materials and mining industries.

Dissemination of Sustainable Practices
Sustainable practices are increasingly widespread around the world. In this context, in its 8th edition, ABM Week highlights the discussion on sustainability in Industry.
Considered one of the main technical-scientific and business meetings in Latin America, ABM Week is organized annually by the Brazilian Association of Metallurgy, Materials and Mining – ABM. In 2024, the event will take place from September 3 to 5 in São Paulo – SP, at Pro Magno Events Center.
During the three days of ABM Week, several technical sessions from 14 events will be held simultaneously, in addition to other attractions, such as plenaries, leaders' forums, roundtables, panels and special sessions, focused mainly on sustainability.
Importance of Sustainability at ABM Week
Throughout the program, several current topics will be discussed, with an emphasis on environmental sustainability. Topics such as decarbonisation of steel and mining, energy transition e circular economy will be highlighted, with the presence of business leaders, experts, renowned professors and students. ABM Week is a stage for the exchange of crucial knowledge about sustainable practices.
On the first day of ABM Week 2024, celebrating ABM's 80th anniversary, the Leaders Forum will be held on September 3, with the participation of executives from the main steel and mining companies in Brazil.
On the occasion, executives such as Gustavo Werneck, CEO of Gerdau; Jorge Luiz Ribeiro de Oliveira, CEO of ArcelorMittal Aços Planos and Vice-President of ArcelorMittal; Marcelo Chara, CEO of Usiminas; and Ricardo Lima, CEO of CBMM, will discuss their renewal strategies and sustainability to ensure the longevity of their companies.
Thematic Events and Circular Economy
In addition to the Forum, the first day of the event will feature the 1st Circular Economy and Sustainability Seminar, a Roundtable on new technological demands for circularity in the industry, debates on the career development in the mining-metallurgical sector during Enemet and a lecture on 'How to be young at 80', in celebration of the association's 80th anniversary, given by philosopher Lucia Helena Galvão.
In this edition of ABM Week, which celebrates the entity's 80th anniversary, the sustainability and industrial applications of artificial intelligence, contributing to the country's development. During the event, ABM will promote the dissemination of knowledge about current and future advances in these topics and others relevant to the sector, impacting the entire industrial production chain and benefiting society, as highlighted by Valdomiro Roman, ABM's Operations Director.

In addition to the Leaders Forum, plenary sessions, panels and roundtables, the ABM Week 2024 program — the largest technical-scientific event in Latin America in the areas of metallurgy, materials and mining — will include technical sessions, awards, tributes, cocktails and an exhibition area.
