After deadly attack in Kiev, Trump makes direct appeal to Putin for ceasefire and change in tone of war, while Zelensky and EU step up criticism of Russia
The President of United States, Donald Trump, condemned the Russian bombings in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, in the early hours of Thursday, 24th. The action resulted in the death of at least nine people and injured another 70. It was the deadliest attack on the city since July of the previous year.
In a post on the Truth Social network, Trump made a direct appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin. “It wasn't necessary, and it happened at a horrible time. Vladimir, STOP! Five thousand soldiers a week are dying. Let's conclude this peace agreement!”, wrote the Republican.
This statement marks a different tone compared to Trump's previous statements, which had demonstrated an understanding of Russia's interest in reaching a peaceful agreement.

Brazil reveals its trump card: the only rare earth mine that can challenge China and the USA!
Since the beginning of the talks between the countries, the US leader maintained that Moscow wanted an end to the conflict, despite warnings from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European authorities.
During the attack, Russia used drones and ballistic missiles in Kiev for hours. The severity of the bombing forced Zelensky to cancel his official visit to South Africa and return to Ukraine.
In his speech, he recalled that, 44 days ago, he accepted a ceasefire proposal made by the United States in an attempt to reach an agreement, but stated that Russian attacks continued.
The European Union also reacted. Kaja Kallas, the bloc’s foreign affairs chief, said on social media that “while claiming to seek peace, Russia launched a deadly airstrike on Kiev".
For her, this behavior shows that Moscow is not really seeking an agreement, but rather to prolong the conflict. Thursday's offensive has heightened tensions and international calls for an immediate ceasefire.
