Petrobras (Petr4) plans many changes on its horizon, with the highlight being the change in the company's commands: Jean Paul Prates enters and Caio Paes Andrade leaves. There are still fears about this change, but depending only on the state-owned company, the balances will be positive.
Recently, production data for 2022 was released. As signaled to the market in January of the previous year, it met all its operational targets, with an even greater emphasis on production metrics.
In total, 2,684 million barrels of oil, if compared, is equivalent to one per day, this was a number that was above the target of 2,6 million boed. Even so, the final result for 2022 was within the standard, within the margins of error disclosed by Petrobras, which were around 4%.
This was a similar situation with other production metrics, such as commercial, which had a total of 2,3 million boed, 2,7% above the target of 2,3 million. Oil production was 2,154 million barrels per day (bpd), 2,6% higher than the estimated 2,1 million.

Petrobras: new platforms
A Petrobras (Petr4) saw two other platforms enter the operating phase over the previous year, the FPSO Guanabara – a vessel that explores, transports oil and natural gas and stores it – this was the first fixed unit in the Mero field, located in the pre-salt layer of the santos basin (SP), which began operating in April.
In December, it was the turn of the P-71 that began operations in the Itaipu field, located in the pre-salt of the Campos basin (RJ) – This platform would only start working in the current year of 2023, but it started a little earlier.
Furthermore, Petrobras reported that, throughout the previous year, the maximum oil production capacity was reached, coming from the P-68 platforms, in the Berbigão and Sururu fields, and from the FPSO Carioca, in the Sépia field – all these facilities are in the pre-salt of the basin in Santos.
At FPSO Carioca, there was a new monthly production record for a pre-salt platform: 174 bps in November. Another record was also registered on the P-70 platform, in this feat, a single well produced around 56,5 thousand bpd also in November.
“The records demonstrate excellent operational performance in world-class assets in deep and ultra-deep waters, where Petrobras has internationally recognized technical expertise,” says the state-owned company, in a statement.
The renovation of the Santos Basin
Another important operational highlight of Petrobras (Petr4) in the year, talks about the renovation of the Campos basin, done with the entry into operations of another 10 new producing wells and four other injection wells, which further expands the area's production potential of 94 bpd.
“These results reinforce Petrobras' commitment to investors and the Brazilian Society and were only possible thanks to the effort of the entire chain of exploration and production segment and the active management of Petrobras' project portfolio”, says the company.
