Wind energy exceeds the mark of 19 GW, being the second largest source of the Brazilian energy matrix. There are currently 726 plants in operation in Brazil, generating clean and renewable energy.

The energy giant Neoenergia, recorded in the period of high winds, which runs from July to October, an even greater increase than expected in wind generation from its parks, located in the Northeast. The company accounted for 748 GWh in the first quarter of 2022, an increase of 12,48% compared to the same period of 2020, driven by winds beyond expectations for the year. Additionally, the period was marked by the early start of the commercial operation of the first 53 turbines of the Chafariz Complex (PB), adding an installed capacity of 184 MW to the company, which reached 700 MW.

During high winds, daily speeds can reach peaks of 12 to 15 m/s or even more. There are still times when most turbines reach their maximum generation capacities and wind farms can record, in one day, very high capacity factors, above 90%. In these months, the average wind speeds are much higher compared to the rest of the year, considerably raising the average capacity factor in this period to above 50% or even 60%.

The installed capacity of the wind source exceeds the mark of 19 GW, being the second largest source of the Brazilian energy matrix. There are currently 726 plants in operation in Brazil, generating clean and renewable energy, providing a reduction in CO2 emissions of around 22.900.000 Ton/year.

With the completion of the Fountain, scheduled for the end of 2021, 471 MW will be added, totaling an increase of 987MW of energy from the winds. In addition, the company will complete the project for the Oitis wind complex (PI/BA), which will be Neoenergia's largest wind farm and will be among the largest wind complexes in Brazil. The project will add 566,5 MW to the company's installed capacity.

Neoenergia has 4 GW of installed generation capacity, 88% of which is renewable energy, and is implementing another 1 GW with the construction of new wind farms. In transmission, there are 1,4 km of lines in operation and 5,3 km under construction.

Since January 2021, Neoenergia has been part of the B3 Corporate Sustainability Index portfolio – Brasil, Bolsa, Balcão – which brings together companies that have the best corporate governance and sustainability practices.
