Braskem signs first partnership to remove household plastic waste

The environmental engineer responsible for the plastic waste separation plant at Tecipar, Lucas Faveri, explains that the technology used in the partnership with Braskem is a semi-mechanized model, unprecedented in the state of São Paulo and that can be scaled, helping municipalities to reduce costs with selective collection and leveraging recycling rates.

Court of Auditors of the State of São Paulo (TCESP) points out that one third of São Paulo municipalities still do not have selective collection of plastic waste

“Most of the projects focused on increasing recyclability come up against the high operating cost of waste sorting and collection systems. Information and economic viability are two very important issues in this process and, in this sense, partnerships between companies, such as the one we are signing with Braskem, and the movement in search of more sustainable habits that we perceive in society, help us to innovate and think of much more effective solutions”, emphasizes Faveri.

The partnership between Braskem and Tecipar will facilitate the recycling of plastic waste

Support for technologies and systems that can facilitate recycling in the country is among the eight pillars of Braskem's commitment to the Circular Economy. In addition to the partnership with Tecipar, Braskem has been working with companies that specialize in mechanical recycling.

The company also continues to invest in research and technology to leverage the chemical recycling in the country. “It's a joint effort, in which the engagement of the population towards conscious consumption and the proper disposal of plastic waste is essential”, says the Braskem executive.

Recycled polyethylene and polypropylene resins contribute to expanding Braskem's portfolio of sustainable solutions, under the I'm greenTM brand, used by large companies to produce plastic items with a better environmental footprint, such as the recycled plastic chairs recently launched by Tramontina and Colormaq's line of semi-automatic and automatic washing machines, with plastic resin components after consumption.
