ANAC visits biodiesel plant that will produce aviation biokerosene in the national territory

The Ministry of Infrastructure and the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) paid a visit to the Granol Biodiesel plant, in the city of Anápolis, in Goiás. The purpose of the visit was to get to know the production potential of aviation biokerosene (BioQAV) in Brazilian territory.

In the midst of a global race to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, BioQAV jet fuel is seen as a more environmentally friendly fuel alternative.

The visit was attended by important names that make up ANAC and the Ministry of Infrastructure, as well as researchers from the Ministry of Mines and Energy. The visit is part of ANAC's sustainability and environment agenda, which aims to contribute to the energy transition, where aviation biokerosene is included.

Rogério Benevides, director of ANAC, commented on the visit: “We have the need, as a society, to act responsibly in the environmental issue. We master the technology for producing biofuels on a large scale and we have available biomass. There is great potential for a sectoral policy in the country that enables the production of aviation biokerosene (BioQAV) in Brazil, generating new jobs and bringing economic, environmental and social benefits".

The visit was useful for discussing important topics in the country's fuel sector, such as policies, infrastructure and raw materials for biofuels in Brazil.

"SAFs are a solution to efficiently accelerate decarbonization, as they have the potential to reduce the emission of polluting gases by up to 80% from an airplane with a full fuel tank.”, highlighted José Ricardo Botelho, CEO of Alta, Security and Operations of the Latin American and Caribbean Association of Air Transport.
