Ore and nickel demand and Anglo American investments

According to the CEO of the Brazilian subsidiary Anglo American, Wilfred Bruijn, even if there are still uncertainties regarding the global and national economic scenario due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it is expected that in 2021 demand will remain strong, both for iron ore and nickel, with Goiás being the center of these operations.

“We have noticed, mainly from the second half of last year, a global increase in commodities, not just those of Anglo American. In the specific case of iron ore, China continues to be the major driver and our product has the attraction of high content (67%) and low impurities. Therefore, we envision, at least, a first semester with very high demand”, said Bruijn.

Anglo American Production Expectation

According to Bruijn, the expectation is that there will be an increase of 5% over the previous year in relation to the production of iron ore and nickel.

In 2020, Anglo American produced around 24 million tons of iron ore within the Minas-Rio system, with a 4% increase when compared to what was produced in 2019. Thus, in 2021 production should be of 25 million tons or more.

“This year's investments include increased productivity and contribute to the expectation of adding volumes to production”, reported Bruijn.
