The Brazilian oil and natural gas sector managed to reach new heights over the last year. The ANP released the results of daily production and announced a record of fuel exploration in the fields of the national territory.

Even with all the international geopolitical instabilities, the Brazilian oil and gas sector survived the year 2022 with great results. The National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP) announced that the country reached a record production on the last year. There were more than 3,021 million barrels per day in oil and natural gas projects. This number represented 2,47% more than that recorded in 2020.

Brazilian oil and natural gas sector achieves surprising results in 2022, with new production records, as announced by the ANP

The national market for oil, natural gas and biofuels suffered great instability in 2022.

International political disputes caused an alert regarding the shortage of several products. In addition, Petrobras' dismantling and privatization project caused even greater problems in the segment.

However, the ANP reinforced that the country not only managed to end the year without losses in oil and gas production, but also achieved new exploration records.

In all, the country ended last year with a production of 3,021 million barrels of oil per day, 2,47% above the record that was observed in 2020, when it reached 2,948 million barrels of oil per day.

This number represents the strength of the Brazilian oil and natural gas sector, which has remained resilient even in the midst of production bottlenecks.

As for natural gas, Brazil reached an annual average of 138 million cubic meters per day (m³/day) in 2022, surpassing by 2,98% the mark of 134 million m³/day recorded in 2021.

The month of December had not so positive results in the production of projects in the oil and gas sector, according to the ANP. There were more than 3,955 million barrels per day, of which 3,074 million bbl/d of oil and 140,14 million m³/d of natural gas.

Even with large numbers, these data represent a decrease of 0,7% and 0,2%, respectively, when compared to the month of November last year.

Increase in oil and natural gas exploration campaigns led to record fuel production in the national sector

The pre-salt region continues to be one of the biggest bets for the Brazilian oil and gas sector in the last year.

The ANP registered a production of 2,986 million boe/d, which corresponded to 75,5% of Brazilian production.

Thus, there was an increase of 0,7% in relation to the previous month and 10,2% in comparison with the same month of the previous year.

The director general of the ANP, Rodolfo Saboia, pointed out that the advances in the new fuel exploration campaigns in the sector led to great results.

He expects that the year 2023 will continue with great growth in the daily production of products, since the segment is one of the most profitable for the Brazilian market.

“In this sense, it is expected that there will be an advance in the number of exploratory activities carried out, which, consequently, in case of exploratory success, may lead to the appropriation of a greater volume of oil and natural gas reserves in the country”, he highlighted.

The ANP results show that the Brazilian oil and natural gas sector continues to be one of the largest in the national market.
