The Rio Grande shipyard, in the Ecovix complex, had been designed to operate in the area of naval construction of platforms and support ships for the oil industry.
As an alternative to shipbuilding, last Thursday (10/09) and expected to end this Monday (14), the Estaleiro Rio Grande shipyard under the command of Ecovix began the largest shipment of cattle ever carried out at the port of Rio Grande. More than 200 jobs in the oil and gas sector! Multinationals are already recruiting professionals in Macaé, says the Brazilian Association of Petroleum Services Companies (Abespetro)

Around 25 animals will be transported to Turkey and Lebanon. The last record occurred in March this year, when 20 head of cattle were sent to Jordan.
The shipyard that felt the downturn in shipbuilding in Brazil has also been shipping scrap metal. In the last 12 months, the shipyard operated an average of one vessel per month. The structure's pier is 360 meters long, however it is possible to dock two ships of up to 200 meters each.

The cattle are being loaded in the area of the Rio Grande shipyard, owned by Ecovix, because there is more depth there, which makes it possible for larger ships to dock there.
The ecovix shipyard, which had originally been designed to build platforms and support ships for oil activities, currently has no demand in that area.
“For the shipyard, this (cattle shipment) is important, as it helps provide another activity for the complex”, argues Ecovix's operational director, Ricardo Ávila. As he estimates, the agribusiness initiatives at the port of Rio Grande will not be restricted to the movement of cattle.
The Ministry of Infrastructure granted authorization for a new port polygonal (which defines the land for the service of an organized port) in the Ecovix complex that will allow the CCGL group to expand its Termasa terminal, which will imply an investment of more than R$ 600 millions.

With the chance of building a polar ship at the Ecovix shipyard, a new sigh of hope arises for the naval hub of Rio Grande, which will translate into many job openings in the region
Ecovix is putting together an agreement with the Chilean ASMAR to build the first Polar vessel at its shipyard in the city of Rio Grande.
According to Ecovix's operational director, Ricardo Ávila, the action is at the project's budget stage and the deadline for submitting proposals ends on November 11th.
It is a different construction, the new project will help the Brazilian naval sector to develop even more, acquiring unprecedented knowledge in Brazil, because it is not an oil platform, it is a polar vessel. It is a complex vessel for the navy of Brazil.
According to the Ecovix director, it is still too early to estimate the values of this undertaking and how many workers would be involved in the services. Today, there are approximately 200 permanent employees working at the shipyard.
The economic crisis in Rio Grande occurred on December 12, 2016, when there were massive layoffs at the Ecovix jobsite. In 2010, the construction of eight hulls for works by Petrobras was planned, which meant 20 years of work and many jobs.
