Recently, Iveco received the green light from the headquarters to start new tests with gas-powered trucks in Brazil

Iveco, manufacturer of heavy vehicles, trucks, buses and light utility vehicles, is betting on gas-powered trucks. The company points out that there are already around 36 trucks with this technology running around the world. Much of it is in Europe. However, the Italian brand also bets on markets like Chile and Argentina. According to the newspaper Estadão, the manufacturer does not confirm the information, but everything indicates that production will start soon. Testing gas trucks in Brazil

In Brazil, Iveco celebrates the good sales results. Therefore, there is great expectation about the launch of gas trucks in the country. According to the company, the new option is already being tested. However, the company did not reveal details about the models. According to the leader of Iveco for South America, Márcio Querichelli, there are already people interested in the new truck. But the brand chose to launch the novelty in neighboring countries because of the more developed infrastructure.

“We plan to enter with the entire portfolio of vehicles that we have in Europe”, says Querichelli. According to him, the models will be adapted for the Brazilian market. According to the executive, the launch depends on the infrastructure and incentives.

It must be remembered that gas trucks are more expensive than diesel ones. For example, in the Brazilian market, where the only option of its kind is from Scania, prices are around 30% higher. This in comparison with equivalent models with a diesel engine.

Iveco has a large market in Europe

According to information disclosed by Estadão, in Spain, the carrier ESP Solutions also chose Iveco gas trucks. With this, it will reduce the emission levels of its operations. Thus, it acquired 300 units of the S-Way Natural Power truck. This is the largest deal of its kind involving a Spanish company. According to the company, the purchase represents 30% of its fleet. By 2022, half of the company's trucks, which transport food and medicine across Europe, will run on gas.

According to the company, this number will jump to 80% in 2027. With the new trucks, the company intends to stop emitting 2 thousand tons of CO2 per year. That is, this is equivalent to planting 279 trees.

Scania has just announced the sale of 39 gas trucks to TransMaroni. TransMaroni reaches 50 trucks powered by gas (natural and/or biomethane) from Scania and enters the history of national transport with the largest fleet ever acquired of this alternative solution to diesel. With the deal, Scania reaches the mark of 150 gas trucks sold in Brazil.

The carrier starts a new positioning, which brings sustainability as a priority, concluding an investment cycle in the order of R$ 50 million in several actions in this field and not just related to this purchase. Scania, which is leading the transition to a more sustainable transport system, reaches the mark of 150 trucks with this technology since the start of sales in October 2019.

TransMaroni acquired the first 11 units of Scania in October 2020. With the performance of the product and the visibility generated by new business, the company decided to buy other smaller lots, adding up to 39 more units ordered. In total, the company reached the historic volume of 50 gas trucks.
