The ambitious Brazilian project, known as the North-South Railway, has the potential to revolutionize national logistics. Understand the relevance of this project for rail transport in Brazil.

The vast Brazilian territory is a significant economic advantage, highlighting each region in the production of different commodities: the Center-West is the leader in grains, the Northeast in tropical fruits, the South in agriculture, the North in minerals and the Southeast in industrial products. However, this territorial extension presents challenges, such as the high time and cost to transport goods between regions, due to the low investment in rail transport. Fortunately, a Brazilian megaproject, the North-South Railway, arrived to change this scenario, promising to revolutionize logistics and boost rail transport in Brazil.

Understand the importance of Brazilian rail transport

The Brazilian megaproject, called the North-South Railway, promises to connect all five regions of the country through rail transport, passing directly through nine states. This project aims to increase efficiency and reduce transport costs, which can boost exports and, consequently, the national economy.

Brazil has a vast territorial extension, especially in the longitudinal direction, which requires the government to develop large projects to interconnect all regions of the country.

However, unlike developed nations that have a strong presence of railways, our country chose to invest in highways to meet this demand. Although this extensive network of highways is essential for logistics, this type of transport is considered less efficient compared to Brazilian rail transport.

Despite not having so many railways, this type of transport has existed here in the country for almost 200 years, where in 1854 the Petrópolis railway was inaugurated, which was of extreme importance for Rio de Janeiro, also marking the beginning of the investments in Brazilian rail transport.

How will the North-South Railway be distributed?

Most of the States do not have a direct connection with the sea, so goods need to be taken by trucks to the ports, which makes it more expensive and takes much longer to reach their destination, with this being the case with the Northern Railway. Sul emerged as the solution to these logistics obstacles, as rail transport is considered faster and more economical than road transport, which will consequently generate more profits for the entire country.

Overall, the North-South Railway will have 13 sections, starting from the city of Barcarena in the State of Pará to Açailândia in Maranhão, with a length of 493 km.

After that, it will be until Porto Franco, which has been a section completed since 1996, with 215 km, thus concluding the part that passes through the Northeast region and returning again to the north, more specifically in the city of Aguiarnópolis in the state of Tocantins, this being the shortest part of the route, which is only 42 km long.

When traveling throughout Brazil, finally, the last point of the Brazilian megaproject is in the city of Rio Grande, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

Economic and logistical impact

The North-South Railway is fundamental to Brazil's logistics and economy. By providing a more efficient and economical means of transport, the railway reduces dependence on road transport, reduces road congestion and improves road safety. Furthermore, by facilitating the flow of agricultural, mineral and industrial products, the railway strengthens the competitiveness of Brazilian exports in the global market.

The North-South Railway is a milestone in Brazilian railway infrastructure, with the potential to transform logistics and boost the national economy. Although it is not yet fully completed, the sections already operational are providing significant benefits, and expectations for the future are positive.

With the completion of all segments, the railway will become a key piece for the economic development and integration of Brazil's regions, demonstrating the power of transport infrastructure in promoting sustainable growth.

Is the Brazilian megaproject already finished?

The North-South Railway, one of Brazil's main railway infrastructure projects, is not yet completely completed, but several sections are already in operation.

The stretch from Porto Nacional (TO) to Estrela d'Oeste (SP), with approximately 1.537 km, and the section from Açailândia (MA) to Porto Nacional (TO) are working, facilitating the flow of grains and ores. The section from Estrela d'Oeste (SP) to Panorama (SP) is under construction, and the section from Porto Franco (MA) to Barcarena (PA) is in planning.

The final segment, from Panorama (SP) to Rio Grande (RS), is also in the planning phase. The completion of the railway faces challenges such as investment, environmental and social issues, and supporting infrastructure.

It is expected that, with continued investment, the North-South Railway will be fully operational in the coming years, reducing logistical costs, increasing the competitiveness of exports and promoting the economic development of the regions through which it passes.

Hahahaha..
40 years of railroad and work of the Lula government… lol, how stupid!
Overpriced railway...detours.
There were even sections of the highway that had to be repaired because the track gauge was smaller!

He speaks ****.
Who said it was Lula's project?
You are a ****.
Two of the main reasons why this railway has not yet been built are corruption and misappropriation of funds in the 40 years since its construction, and the fact that the PT and its cronies, including the PSOL, have filed appeals with the STF, seeking to prevent the completion of the work, due to **** environmentalist ideas.

It seems like something insane, the transposition was full of debris, abandoned, 5 cm concrete, overbilling, and on top of that there was a section that was going uphill, I've never seen water rise without a pump, someone went there and redid everything, completed the missing work, stopped for 11 years, it wasn't completed in ****'s first term, nor in the second, nor with ****, there are **** who believe in saci Pererê.

It's a shame that these new railways are only for transporting cargo. The right thing to do would be to have a track alongside, on the same route, for passenger trains.

There may be sharing of cargo and passengers.
The example is the 2 railways operated by Vale:
-Victory to Minas and Carajas.
The Vitória-Minas passenger train has been operating daily in both directions for over 100 years.
What is lacking is political strength to charge operating companies for at least one daily train, with operating costs divided between the benefiting municipalities and companies.

An example of incompetence, seriousness and lack of will on the part of many rulers, and a lot of theft has contributed to the fact that in these 40 years of construction there are still sections that have not been completed and are still in planning.
An essential work for the development of the transportation of products for export and supply in the country. How many years will it still take to complete!!!.
And how many more billions will be under-invoiced!!!

They forgot to say that, despite only staying for 4 years, BOLSONARO's term was the government that made the most progress on the North-South railway. The same happened with the transposition of the São Francisco.
