Aiming to boost the entry of renewable fuels in its state, the distributor Bahiagás opened a public call for the purchase of biomethane and received three offers from suppliers for the supply of renewable gas in the region.

After closing its public call for the purchase of biomethane, the renewable gas from the state of Bahia, Bahiagás, has three suppliers interested in signing contracts for domestic supply in the region. In this way, the company will be able to invest in diversifying the entry of renewable fuels in the region of Bahia and intends to analyze all the proposals to reach the most favorable decision for the internal development of the state.

Public call for purchase of biomethane from Bahiagás manages to attract three proposals from suppliers of renewable gas for the internal supply of the state of Bahia

Bahiagás is now seeking to diversify the entry of renewable fuels in the state of Bahia and has three proposals for biomethane suppliers to be analyzed, after the completion of the public call for the purchase of natural gas.

The proposal reception phase ended two weeks ago, on July 12th, and now the company will move on to analyzing the proposals to find the most favorable one for the fuel market in Bahia.

The Bahian natural gas distributor intends to purchase at least 2 m³/day of biomethane on a firm basis, with supply starting by January 2025, and is expected to finalize the public call for bids with the signing of the contract with one of the suppliers. already during the month of October of this year.

In addition, the company hopes that the biomethane plant that will be installed in the state will be located close to the cities that receive the product from the distributor, to facilitate the transportation of the fuel. If this does not happen, the company has determined that it will be the responsibility of the winner among the three suppliers to guarantee the necessary infrastructure to transport the biomethane to the regions.

“We concluded an important phase of the process and we have good perspectives to move forward in the negotiations on the supply of biomethane”, highlighted the manager of gas supply and market of Bahiagás, Makyo Félix. Now, the process of finalizing the public call can be accelerated and the company is continuing to analyze the proposals made by each of the suppliers.

The company is the national leader in the number of suppliers and intends to expand business with a public call for the supply of biomethane natural gas in the coming years

The renewable gas distributor Bahiagás is currently the largest company in the national territory in terms of the number of suppliers and has ten partnerships for the internal supply of natural gas. Among them, the largest supplier is Galp, responsible for 24% of the contracted volume, followed by Shell (20%) and Petrobras (15%). Bahiagás currently buys 3,6 million m³/day of gas and is now looking to expand these numbers even further with new biomethane suppliers.

In addition, at the end of June this year, the government of the state of Bahia finalized the acquisition of Gaspetro's stake in Bahiagás for a total of R$ 540 million, aiming to guarantee more participation in the renewable gas distributor. Thus, the state administration, which had 51% of the shares with voting rights, had 75% and, in relation to the total capital, the participation increased from 17% to 57%.

Bahia's Secretary of Infrastructure, Marcus Cavalcanti, said that the state government will decide whether to sell the company's shares in 2023, but the goal now is to secure new suppliers of biomethane to expand the fuel market in the region of Bahia.
