In 2022, the Bolivian government made a 49% higher profit on gas exports to Brazil and Argentina
With a 49% higher profit in 2022 in the export of natural gas to Brazil and Argentina, the Bolivian government aims to meet the demand that has been generated by Mato Grosso do Sul. Thus, Bolivia aims to expand the supply of fuel through the Bolivia-Brazil gas pipeline system (Gasbol).
This expansion may also lead to greater collection of ICMS for the Brazilian State, since the fuel is nationalized in Corumbá. According to Correio do Estado, Gasbol yields more than R $ 1 billion per year for Mato Grosso do Sul with the collection of taxes.
To complete, internally, Companhia de Gás de Mato Grosso do Sul (MSGás) aims to expand its market and is offering an open tender to hire commercial consultancy in order to expand its customer network in Campo Grande. This process should be completed in March of this year.

MSGás has a BRL 50 million expansion project, which includes the creation of a line between the Capital and Sidrolândia
MSGás serves 27 industries in Campo Grande and Três Lagoas. Since 2022, the company has been carrying out an expansion project, valued at BRL 50 million, to create a connection between the Capital and Sidrolândia. If the supply of fuel increases, the plan is to create another branch line, to pass through Maracaju and Rio Brilhante and arrive in Dourados.
Gasbol has the capacity to transport 30 million m³ of natural gas per day, and has a priority contract only with Petrobras. The Brazilian state-owned company has a contract for the purchase of 20 million m³/day, which is valid until 2025. However, currently, Bolivia has had difficulties in guaranteeing this quantity and, contractually, it can supply 14 million m³/day without receiving a fine.
Meeting for the expansion of the supply of natural gas by Bolivia to Mato Grosso do Sul
In Brasilia, a meeting was held between the head of Semadesc, Jaime Verruck, and the Minister Counselor of the Embassy of Bolivia, Horácio Villegas. The focus was to reinforce, on behalf of the government of Mato Grosso do Sul, agreements with the Bolivian government on issues such as expanding the supply of natural gas.
“We want to increase the sale of natural gas in Brazil, via Gasbol. Today, there is an average idleness of 30% in the gas pipeline. For this, it is necessary to expand the supply of natural gas, with the activation of the MSGás gas pipeline, in Corumbá. We also dealt with sanitary control at the border, and it was decided to hold an official meeting, in Corumbá, to address these and other matters, such as the integration of the Bolivia-Brazil railroad and the bioceanic railway route, in addition to waterway and port integration on the Paraguay River”, explained the secretary.
