With the new investment of R$ 80 million released by the BNDES for the construction of biomass thermoelectric plants in the state of Roraima, the region will now have new perspectives for growth in the energy sector and will join the energy SIN.
The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) contracted a total of R$ 80 million for investment in the construction of biomass thermoelectric plants in the state of Roraima and, for this Wednesday, (22/06), it has already started the first stages of the project. will be built in total the thermoelectric plants of Bonfim, Cantá, Pau Rainha and Santa Luz, with the objective of diversifying the supply in the state and guaranteeing a new look at the region's energy sector.
Four new biomass thermoelectric plants will be installed in Roraima with an investment of R$ 80 million released by BNDES for the construction of structures
The BNDES advances in yet another project aimed at expanding the energy sector in the north of Brazil and, now, has announced the release of a total investment of R$ 80 million, for the construction of four biomass thermoelectric plants in the municipalities of Cantá and Boa Vista, in Roraima.
The state is the only one in Brazil that is not yet connected to the National Interconnected System (SIN) of energy, but now it will have new perspectives for the segment with the new energy project.

The bank also announced that the investment contributions will come from the BNDES Fundo Clima — Modalities Renewable Energies and, in addition to the construction of the biomass thermoelectric plants, they will also be responsible for the cost of the transmission systems associated with the plants.
Thus, the Bonfim, Cantá, Pau Rainha and Santa Luz thermoelectric plants will have a total installed capacity of 40 megawatts (MW), equivalent to what is needed to supply 148 homes, thus ensuring more energy security in the supply of the resource for residents of the state.
And, in addition to ensuring a new perspective for growth in the energy sector in the region, investment in the construction of biomass thermoelectric plants will also be responsible for contributing to the region's environmental agenda. This, because the project will reduce the need for diesel generation in the state, which, in addition to being more expensive, contributes to negative impacts on the environment. Furthermore, the BNDES expects the project to avoid the emission of around 2,8 million tons of greenhouse gases each year of operation.
Biomass thermoelectric plant project will be supplied with reforestation resources and investment will contribute to the state's environment
The BNDES gave more details about the project to build power generation plants in the state of Roraima and highlighted that the biomass thermoelectric plants will be grouped into two areas (clusters), sharing utilities and connection systems, 90 km apart. The first is Serra da Lua, which will be located in Cantá, and will have the Bonfim and Cantá thermoelectric plants, while the Jacitara, in the capital Boa Vista, will have the Pau Rainha and Santa Luz plants.
In addition, all thermoelectric plants will run on biomass, that is, they will use wood chips, wood industry residues and other organic residues to generate energy that will supply the region.
To ensure less impact on the environment, the BNDES guaranteed that all the fuel used will come from reforested areas and the planting process, preventing new forest areas from being destroyed for the development of the initiative.
And, with the millionaire investment released by BNDES, the state of Roraima will be able to enter the energy route of the Brazilian market and will be able to attract new investments for the resource generation potential in the region over the next few years.
