The announcement took place in Japan, where Honda reported that it will end production of combustion engines, gasoline and diesel globally by 2040. This means that possibly, well before that date, engine lines such as L, P and R will remain in the memory of brand lovers.

Although defend hybrid cars, the multinational Honda recognizes that the production of electric cars is a path of no return, and that it cannot go it alone, making its engines gasoline or diesel, however efficient they may be.

Honda should keep combustion engines until the middle of the next decade

Everything indicates that the Japanese company should continue manufacturing combustion engines until the middle of the next decade, going against the grain of its competitors, who are already preparing for the end of pistons, connecting rods, crankshafts and valves.

Despite this decision, Honda seeks carbon neutrality by 2050. A great example of this is here in Brazil, where the Japanese factories in the South and Northeast use energy from its own wind farms.

And it doesn't stop there, in addition to sustainability in production, Honda will have a range of electric cars based on a specific platform, called: Architecture.

O brand boss announced, also, the new strategic plan, which begins with the electrification of the European portfolio by the end of 2022. In 2030, the brand promises 40% of global sales, rising to 80% in 2035, and 100% in 2040.

The Japanese partnered with General Motors and the giants will accelerate the electrification of the Honda and Acura portfolio

The Japanese multinational wastes no time when it comes to investments and entered into a partnership with the giant General Motors, in the USA, to accelerate the manufacture of electric vehicles from the Honda and Acura portfolio.

Given that Honda has pledged to manufacture 10 new electric cars for China by 2026, the e:Prototype is the first in this wave of its own products, being an energized reinterpretation of the New HR-V.

Honda only plans three hybrid models imported into Brazil. In Brazil, what is currently being said is that the future is linked to flexible hybridization, but with ethanol dominating.

With Honda and other automakers setting a final date for the production of combustion, gasoline and diesel engines to focus on electric cars, you already have an idea of when Brazilians will no longer be able to buy brand new flex cars.
