Unemployment rate was 4,3% lower than the same period last year
The first quarter of 2022 ended with good news in the economy: Brazil has the biggest drop in unemployment in relation to the G20 countries. The data were released this week by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). According to the survey, Brazil registered an unemployment rate of 10,5% in the first quarter, which represents a drop of 4,3% compared to the same period in 2022.
And that's not all! The achieved unemployment rate reached the lowest value since 2016, which points to an economic recovery and hope. Experts claim that this is a result of the strengthening of the world economy and the gradual return to face-to-face activities, which has stimulated business. Still not recovered from the last blow, the sectors that employ were directly affected, mainly in countries that have direct commercial relations with those involved in the war. In this way, Brazil was also affected, but not so abruptly in the employment sector. After all, although the G20 countries have shown a reduction in the unemployment rate, Brazil managed to stand out, as shown by the results in the figure below.
The G20 is the group of countries considered to have the largest economies in the world. Note that Brazil had the best result in relation to the drop in the unemployment rate of the G20, ahead of first world countries such as Germany, France, Canada and Spain.
The scenario is promising, but Brazil still has the 4th highest unemployment rate in the world
While the job recovery is encouraging, we still have a lot to improve. After all, we occupy the 4th place in the list of countries with the highest unemployment rate. That is, in absolute numbers, this is equivalent to 11,3 million unemployed. The lowest rate ever recorded happened in 2013, with 6,3%, and the maximum in March 2021, reaching 14,9%.
When compared with the previous quarter, there was a drop of 0,7% in the unemployment rate, which implies a total of 1.083 thousand people now employed. Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, we see a total of 9.036 thousand people with occupancy.
Transport, storage and mail sectors were the ones that had the biggest drop in unemployment in Brazil
The rate of people with occupation and formal employment in the private sector was 11,6% higher than last year, which is equivalent to 35,2 million people.
“It is noteworthy the maintenance of this process of drop in the vacancy rate influenced, mainly, by the continuous expansion of the occupation that in this quarter was very concentrated in the activities of transport, storage and mail. Other personal beautification services provided to families such as manicurists, hairdressers and beauticians, and also in the education segment, which had a significant expansion”
