Highways, railways and ports

In the highway segment, the Ministry of Infrastructure intends to negotiate 14 concessions, which involve 8.800 kilometers of road and 81,6 billion reais in investments. Among the plans are the BR-381/262 (MG/ES), the BR-116/493 (Rio-Valadares), the six highway lots in Paraná, the BR-040/495/MG/RJ, in addition to other more.

In addition, the portfolio aims to contract 55,79 billion reais in investments in the area of railroads, based on two contract renewals and the concession of Ferrogrão.

For the port sector, the Ministry intends to carry out two major privatizations: the Companhia Docas do Espírito Santos (Codesa) and the Organized Port of Santos.

“It will be the country with the most private infrastructure in the world, because we will have privatized ports, airports granted, almost half of the federal road network granted, railways authorized, sanitation granted or privatized, energy both in transmission and distribution also in the hands of the private initiative. That is, all sectors of infrastructure will have at least a significant participation of the private sector”, declared the Minister of Infrastructure, Tarcísio de Freitas.

Decreased unemployment and sustainability

According to Tarcísio, the participation of the private initiative will reduce unemployment, increase the sustainability of the Brazilian infrastructure, in addition to making the sector more productive.

The minister also declared that the plans are guided by thinking in the long term, with significant results for the next 15 years. In addition, he stated that Brazil “has to be a leader in infrastructure in Latin America”.

For 2022, the expectation of the Ministry of Infrastructure is to deliver eight works from the portfolio's own budget. Tarcísio informed that the goals are to deliver the projects on the runway at Fernando de Noronha Airport, the duplication of the BR-470 (SC), the duplication of the Pelotas (RS) bypass, the North-South railroad, the second Brazil-Paraguay bridge , and the urban crossing of São José do Rio Preto (SP).

In 2021, the Federal Government hired BRL 37,6 billion from the private sector to invest in the transport sector over the next few years.
