Minas Gerais government advances in historic project by selecting consortium to build bridge over São Francisco River, boosting regional development
The Government of Minas Gerais announced, through the Department of Highways (DER-MG), the lowest bid consultant for the resumption of works on the bridge over the São Francisco River, located in the city of the same name, in the North of state.
The PRSF consortium, made up of the companies SA Paulista de Construções e Comércio, Azevedo e Travassos Infraestrutura Ltda, and the Argentine company Benito Roggio e Hijos Sociedad Anônima, presented an offer of R$158,5 million, corresponding to 91,17% of the initial value, which was estimated at R$173,8 million.
Six companies participated in the bidding process, which was carried out online. After the presentation of the financial proposal, DER-MG evaluated and qualified the PRSF consortium, and is now awaiting the appeals period for the officialization of the winning company and the issuance of the order of service.

This bridge is considered an expected advance, as it will eliminate the use of ferries for the crossing and promises to improve the quality of life for residents of São Francisco and the neighboring city of Pintópolis, connected by the MG-402 highway.
Structure of the New Bridge in Minas Gerais
The bridge will be one of the largest in Minas Gerais, measuring 1.120 meters long and 13,8 meters wide, part of Provias, an infrastructure program that is the largest package of road works in the last decade.
In addition to the construction of the bridge, the notice also includes an access variant with improvements and paving on a 3,06-kilometer stretch between São Francisco and Pintópolis.
Provias has secured resources, ensuring that construction will be completed without interruptions. This crossing, in addition to facilitating transportation and mobility in the region, should boost local economic development, facilitating the movement of people and the flow of products.
History and Interruptions
The works were halted after the contract with the company previously responsible for the construction was terminated. The decision, taken by the Government of Minas Gerais in a meeting involving representatives of the company and the Public Prosecutor's Office of Minas Gerais (MPMG), was made due to the company's recurring inability to advance at the pace stipulated in the contract.
At the time, DER-MG ordered the construction company to transport the material stored at the construction site within 60 days and complete the concrete elements already in progress. This was intended to reduce financial and material losses due to the interruption of construction work.
Paving of the Pintópolis-Urucuia stretch
In addition to the bridge, DER-MG is investing in paving highways MG-402 and MG-202, in the section that connects Pintópolis to Urucuia, totaling 73 kilometers divided into two lots.
The first batch comprises 21,7 kilometers, while the second covers 51,4 kilometers. It is expected that by the end of 2024, around 30 kilometers will be completed.
These works will connect the northern and northwestern regions of Minas Gerais to the Jequitinhonha and Mucuri valleys and the south of Bahia. The expectation is that this new paving will facilitate the transportation of grains, one of the economic pillars of the region, and directly benefit approximately 100 people.
With the construction of the bridge over the São Francisco River and the paving of the stretch to Urucuia, the state government hopes to boost the socioeconomic development of the region, reducing travel time and improving the transportation of goods.
