With the promise of revolutionizing trade between Brazil and Paraguay, the Bioceanic Bridge is advancing towards the Pacific Ocean. Costing R$470 million, this structure will be essential to shorten Brazilian trade routes by up to 10 thousand kilometers, expanding tourism and the country's competitiveness in exports.

Along the Paraguay River, a colossal project with a high economic impact is progressing at a rapid pace.

The construction of the Bioceanic Bridge, which connects Brazil to Paraguay through an unprecedented connection between Porto Murtinho, in Mato Grosso do Sul, and Carmello Peralta, in Paraguay, is becoming one of the most strategic works for trade and regional integration.

Construction progresses with 60% complete execution, which brings the country closer to a new milestone in international trade relations, expanding Brazilian access to Asian markets and, consequently, to the global economy.

In the second paragraph, the perspective becomes clearer: this bridge promises to transform the transportation of goods to Asian countries.

According to the planning, the work will reduce by almost 10 thousand kilometers the route of Brazilian products that, today, depend on crossing the Atlantic Ocean and the Panama Canal.

The Bioceanic Route – a transport corridor that will connect Brazil to the Pacific Ocean via Paraguay, Argentina and Chile – emerges as a strategic solution to make the country more competitive on international trade routes.

Bridge strategy and current situation

A Bridge construction Bioceânica was resumed in March 2024, after pauses that required a resumption of activities with even more planning and agility.

Currently, the viaducts on both the Brazilian and Paraguayan sides have already been completed. Work now focuses on the pillars that will support the monumental structure.

On the Paraguayan side, 68% of the construction of the pillars has already been completed, while on the Brazilian side, this figure is 59%.

With these advances, delivery is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026, and more than 400 workers are involved in construction daily of this structure of impressive proportions.

At 1.294 meters long and 29 meters high above the riverbed, the bridge will be divided into three segments.

The first two form the access viaducts on both banks, while the third is made up of the cable-stayed part, which will have an extension of 632 meters and a central span of 350 meters, allowing the constant flow of vessels and the safe flow of goods.

Economic relevance and investigated by authorities

The Bioceanic Bridge project is not free from regulatory and inspection challenges.

At the end of 2023, an investigation was conducted by the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service to verify whether customs processes were in compliance with the legislation.

The objective was to guarantee the legality of product import and export operations in the region and prevent potential tax evasion practices.

This infrastructure is made possible with the investment of BRL 472,4 million, and Brazilian authorities believe that the bridge will be essential to boost the economy and reduce export costs, in addition to increasing Brazil's competitiveness on the international stage.

Impact on the Bioceanic Route and expectations for tourism

In addition to the direct effect on the logistics of transporting goods, the Bioceanic Bridge promises to give a new boost to tourism between Brazil and Paraguay, in addition to strengthening cultural interaction between the countries.

According to studies and economic projections, this bioceanic corridor should consolidate a new front of development for the tourism sector.

The route that will extend to Chile will enable, for example, the creation of new tourism routes between the countries involved, encouraging the exchange and circulation of tourists throughout South America.

Completion and expected delivery

The Bioceanic Bridge represents a new chapter for the integration between Brazil and Paraguay and is in line with the strategy of transport modernization international cargo transport, an essential step towards South American connectivity and Brazil's leading role in foreign trade.

The delivery, scheduled for early 2026, could represent the end of a long construction process and the beginning of a new era for Brazilian commerce and tourism.

How do you think the Bioceanic Bridge will impact the economy and tourism between Brazil and Paraguay? Do you believe that this new route could really transform Brazilian exports to Asia?

🤔It will be an unprecedented waste, not to mention the glut of bribes and embezzlement that will happen under this bridge!
