The North Fluminense Oil Workers Union, Sindipetro-NF, filed a letter demanding the interdiction of the P-50 platform, in the Campos Basin. According to reports, the environment is in poor condition and poses risks to workers and the environment.

The document prepared by Sindipetro-NF was sent to the Public Ministry of Labor, as well as to other inspection bodies, to ensure an in-depth analysis by specialists on the proposed interdiction in the Campos Basin. The craft was made with basis in the speeches of the P-50 platform workers themselves, who know firsthand the risks caused by poor conditions.

The lack of an appropriate infrastructure is affecting the environment every day and making the platform's work unfeasible.

Throughout the document, Sindipetro-NF justifies, based on the reports, the urgency of the interdiction so that everyone can leave with dignified conditions. The speech is based on the following argument: “The reported poor maintenance and habitability conditions make it imperative to administratively interdict the unit and the action of the competent authorities. The vessel is undergoing a process of degradation due to lack of investment and maintenance of its structure and machinery”.

In this way, it is possible to perceive that the problem arises from a larger order and points to an abandonment of the Campos Basin platform that does not seem to be recent, since the bad conditions are so extreme as to demand an interdiction.

Among the risks that directly affect the environment, the official letter reinforces that problems with turbo-generators and failures in the water heating system have been reported.

This point needs to work correctly, as it influences the proper separation of oil and discarded water. When it is not done in the ideal way, the Ocean can be contaminated with oil residues released along with the water.

Workers are affected by the conditions on the P-50 platform, in the Campos Basin. Even the bathrooms are in poor condition.

In addition to the environment, the work of Sindipetro-NF also reinforces the risks suffered by workers in the Campos Basin.

The document says that: “The poor structural conditions of the operational unit also directly reflect on the precariousness of the crew's housing on board. Several complaints point out that not even the unit's bathrooms are in full operation. According to reports, in the location of the deck, of the total of 6 (six) bathrooms, only 1 (one) remains operational. As for the location on the 2nd floor of the house, with 4 (four) bathrooms, only 1 (one) is in operation”.

Considering this scenario, the risks suffered by employees directly affect the execution time of tasks.

Since they have to wait longer to use even the toilet, as well as the quality of work, as poor conditions affect everyone's well-being.

Other additional information worth mentioning is described in the document: “In addition, the emergency generator and the auxiliary generator have leaks in the cooling system, constituting a risk to operational continuity in situations that require a longer period of use of such equipment”.

That is, there is a great risk if emergency situations occur on the P-50 platform.

The bad conditions were denounced by Sindipetro-NF and list a large number of risks. The letter was filed demanding the interdiction of the platform in the Campos Basin and awaits the verdict of the competent bodies.
