BYD has updated the warranty policy for electric and hybrid cars in Brazil and set new mileage limits for 2026/2027 model year vehicles.
Now, private use cars continue to have 6 years of coverage, but will now have a limit of 200,000 km driven. Previously, this same period had no mileage restriction.
For commercial use, in turn, the change brought a significant expansion. Coverage went from 2 years or 100,000 km to 6 years or 100,000 km.

BYD Battery Also Undergoes Important Change
The most sensitive change appears in the battery warranty. For private use, the period remains 8 years, but now there is a limit of 200,000 km.
Previously, however, private battery coverage had no mileage cap. For commercial use, the battery maintains 8 years, but the limit dropped from 500,000 km to 200,000 km.
Therefore, the new rule mainly changes the relationship between coverage time and distance traveled. Still, according to BYD Brazil, the periods of 6 years for the vehicle and 8 years for the battery have been maintained.
New Rules Do Not Affect Cars Already Sold
As the brand informed in an official statement, the update is valid only for 2026/2027 model year vehicles onwards.
Thus, those who own a BYD of 2026/2026 model year or earlier remain with the terms contracted at the time of purchase.
According to the company, the change was made to follow global company guidelines. In this regard, BYD stated that the 200,000 km limit keeps the brand in a prominent position for mileage coverage.
Electric Motor and High-Voltage System Get New Periods
In addition to the battery, other items had changes in the warranty manual. The electric motor, for example, now has coverage of 8 years or 200,000 km for all types of use.
Previously, for commercial use, this component had protection of 6 years or 150,000 km.
Meanwhile, the high-voltage system went from 6 years to 8 years or 200,000 km for private use. For commercial use, the period remains 5 years, but the mileage increases from 150,000 km to 200,000 km.
Chassis, Exterior Lights, and Multimedia System Join the List
The chassis also now has a mileage limit for private use. Now, coverage continues for 6 years, but respects the cap of 200,000 km.
On the other hand, the warranty for exterior lights and the multimedia system is now valid only up to the first 60,000 km driven.
Meanwhile, suspension components continue to have protection for 24 months or 100,000 km.
As for periodic maintenance intervals, they remain at 12 months or 20,000 km for most inspection items.
Owner’s manual becomes key to maintaining coverage
With the new rules, the BYD owner’s manual becomes even more important for customers.
After all, it describes the conditions for maintaining the coverage offered by the manufacturer. Therefore, revisions, limits, and usage rules need to be carefully followed.
Ultimately, the change reorganizes the warranty for BYD’s electric and hybrid vehicles in Brazil. However, it also creates new points of attention for those intending to buy 2026/2027 models.
