BYD unveils Tang L electric SUV with seven seats and more than 1.100 hp at a competitive price in China.

Chinese automaker BYD has revealed the Tang L to the world, a new seven-seater electric SUV that promises to raise the bar in the category. With fully electric and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions, the model is already being sold in China with prices ranging from 229.800 to 289.800 yuan — the equivalent of between R$183 and R$239 in direct conversion, without taxes. The new model attracted attention for combining generous interior space, extreme power and advanced technological features. The launch places BYD in a prominent position in the segment electric cars in Brazil and in the world, competing directly with more expensive models by offering a robust package with a market value similar to that of mid-size SUVs, such as the Toyota Corolla Cross.

Bold design with Dragon Face signature

On the exterior, the BYD Tang L features the brand's new Dragon Face visual language. The front features thin, aggressive headlights, accompanied by an LED bar that runs across the entire front. The silver grille and aerodynamic details give it a modern and imposing appearance.

The rear follows a cleaner style, with LED lights interconnected by a horizontal strip. The idea is to combine urban presence with sophistication, maintaining a visual profile aligned with the new generation of global electric vehicles.

In terms of dimensions, the Tang L is impressive: it is 5,04 meters long, 1,99 m wide, 1,76 m high and has a 2,95 m wheelbase. These numbers translate into a spacious interior, ideal for large families or users who value comfort in all rows.

Futuristic interior with digital dashboard and augmented reality

Inside, the seven-seater electric SUV impresses with its 15,6-inch multimedia center, which can be rotated horizontally or vertically. In addition, there is a digital instrument panel with augmented reality, which makes it easier to read information while driving.

The God's Eye B ADAS driving assistance system is also part of the package, offering features such as blind spot warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist, among others. All this with premium finish, comfortable seats and smart interior layout.

Extreme power and sporty acceleration are highlights of BYD’s new SUV

BYD Tang L arrives on the market with two all-electric configurations. In the rear-wheel drive version, the model delivers 788 hp and reaches 30.511 RPM — a mark that the manufacturer claims is a global record among production vehicles.

The most powerful version adds a 312 hp front engine, totaling 1.101 hp and offering all-wheel drive. With this configuration, the SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3,9 seconds, placing it alongside high-performance sports models.

Even with this power, the model offers autonomy of up to 670 km in the rear-wheel drive version. All-wheel drive reaches up to 600 km, and with the additional drone equipment, the autonomy is around 560 km, always following the CLTC standard.

Two hybrid options with extended range

In addition to the electric versions, the Tang L plug-in hybrid SUV has two plug-in hybrid configurations. The first combines a 1.5 hp 156 turbo engine with a 271 hp electric motor, resulting in an efficient rear-wheel drive system.

The second hybrid option adds one more electric motor at the front, ensuring four-wheel drive. This configuration offers up to 215 km of autonomy in electric mode only and can reach up to 1.270 km in combined mode, according to the CLTC cycle.

The two hybrid variants also use the Super e-Platform from BYD, which allows recharging in a reduced time. The structure supports fast charging systems, allowing a large part of the battery to be recovered in approximately five minutes, depending on the charger used.

Cutting-edge automotive technology in the SUV segment

The launch of the BYD Tang L reinforces the Chinese automaker's advancement in the automotive technology sector, with emphasis on the integrated infotainment system, smartphone connectivity, voice recognition, remote software update (OTA) and commands via app.

The digital dashboard, combined with intelligent driving control, provides the driver with a safer and more comfortable experience, without sacrificing modern features. The brand's proposal is to democratize the high technology of premium cars, offering these features at prices below those of the main European competitors.

Competitive price and possible arrival of electric cars in Brazil

Even with specs that rival luxury brands, the plug-in hybrid SUV  BYD Tang L will be sold at prices well below the average for similar models. At the direct exchange rate, the model starts at R$183, which places it in the same range as mid-size SUVs sold in Brazil.

If launched here with incentives and exemptions, the SUV could become one of the most attractive options in the segment. BYD already operates in the country with models such as the Dolphin and the SongPlus, and the Tang L could be another step towards consolidating the brand in the Brazilian market.

Although there is no official confirmation yet, the arrival of the BYD Tang L in Brazil is considered likely, given the brand's expansion strategy in the country. The model fits the profile of consumers looking for space, power and energy efficiency, in addition to representing an advance in the offer of electric cars in Brazil with good cost-benefit.

BYD is already investing in local factories and intends to expand its dealership network, which could facilitate the adaptation of the Tang L plug-in hybrid SUV to the Brazilian market, including versions adapted for national use.
