Chinese giant BYD reveals bold plans: 20 new hires.

In the global automotive industry scenario, Few companies have grown as quickly as BYD. The Chinese giant of electric and hybrid vehicles has been expanding its presence in the international market with billion-dollar investments and bold strategies.

Now, the automaker is announcing a new wave of hiring at its unit in China, while reinforcing its ambitious plans in Brazil.

The initiative promises to generate thousands of jobs and further boost the transition to sustainable mobility.

BYD to open 20 jobs in China by 2025

BYD plans to hire 20 employees for its factory in Zhengzhou, Henan province, in the first quarter of 2025.

The information was released by the Chinese state newspaper Henan Daily and reinforces the company's commitment to expanding its production capacity.

Currently, the Zhengzhou unit has around 60 workers, responsible for manufacturing electric and hybrid vehicles.

By 2024, the factory's production will reach 545 vehicles, an impressive increase of almost 170% compared to the previous year.

With the expansion of the plant, the expectation is that this number will continue to grow, consolidating BYD as one of the largest manufacturers of electric vehicles in the world.

The recruitment of new professionals will cover sectors such as research and development, engineering and manufacturing.

This decision is part of BYD's strategy to meet the growing global demand for electric vehicles and strengthen its position as a leader in the industry.

Brazil on BYD's radar: billion-dollar investment and new factory in Camaçari

BYD’s expansion is not limited to China. In Brazil, the Chinese automaker is investing heavily to become a major force in the electric vehicle sector.

In March 2024, the company announced that it would increase its investment in the country from R$3 billion to R$5,5 billion. The goal is to accelerate the installation of the factory in Camaçari, Bahia, where Ford previously operated.

The Brazilian unit is expected to start operating in February 2025.

With this, BYD promises to generate around 10 thousand direct jobs in the first months of operation, with the possibility of expansion up to 20 thousand direct and indirect vacancies as the factory consolidates.

BYD's industrial complex in Brazil will have three plants: one for the assembly of electric and hybrid cars, another for the production of batteries and a third dedicated to the manufacture of electric bus chassis.

This structure is part of the company's strategy to dominate the Latin American sustainable mobility market.

Challenges and controversies in Brazil

Although BYD's plans in Brazil are grand, the company has faced challenges.

In January 2025, a complaint revealed that Chinese workers hired to build the factory were working in conditions akin to slavery.

The situation generated negative repercussions and led to the termination of BYD's contract with the subcontractor responsible for the irregularity.

The company also committed to strengthening compliance measures to prevent new problems of this type.

Furthermore, BYD's arrival in Camaçari impacted the local economy, boosting investments in the automotive sector and in the region's infrastructure.

Authorities in the state of Bahia say the factory will bring a new cycle of development to the Brazilian automobile industry, especially in the electric sector.

BYD's accelerated growth and global competition

BYD has surpassed industry giants such as Tesla and Volkswagen in electric vehicle sales volume.

In 2023, the Chinese company surpassed Tesla in the number of global sales in the last quarter of the year, consolidating itself as one of the main players in the sector.

The secret to BYD's success lies in verticalized production. The company manufactures its own batteries, motors and semiconductors, reducing costs and ensuring greater control over its production chain.

This strategy allowed the automaker to offer electric and hybrid models at more competitive prices than its competitors, especially in emerging markets such as Brazil and India.

Another differentiator of BYD is its commitment to innovative technologies. company developed the so-called Blade Battery, a safer and more efficient battery, which has been adopted in several models.

In addition, the automaker invests in the electrification of public transport, with electric buses in operation in several cities around the world, including São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

The future of the company in Brazil and in the world

The expectation for the coming years is that BYD will continue to expand its global presence, driven by the growing interest in electric vehicles and the decarbonization policies adopted by several countries.

In Brazil, the company has already announced the development of a flex hybrid engine, adapted to the needs of the national market, which could be an important competitive advantage.

With billion-dollar investments, factories being opened and sales records, BYD is positioning itself as one of the biggest protagonists in the transformation of the automotive industry.

If the automaker can overcome the challenges and maintain its growth rate, it could redefine the future of electric mobility in Brazil and the world.
