Canada advances in electrification and creates post of the future, which will not have fossil fuels

The winning project in Canada will bring a new kind of gas station, with an incredible experience for electric car drivers and without the use of fossil fuels

It is no longer today that it is said that gas stations have their days numbered. As the popularity of electric cars grows, gas stations will need to reinvent themselves to also supply this new type of automobile market. But a new design competition, financed by Parkland, one of the largest gas station companies in the world, located in Canada, is proposing the challenge of imagining what the new gas stations of the future will look like.

Parkland, a company headquartered in Canada, which currently has around 3 gas stations spread across 25 countries, is the main sponsor of an international challenge that aims to create an electric service station of the future.

The winner of the challenge sought to understand that the time needed to recharge a battery is also an opportunity for the driver of the vehicle to rest and relax, bearing in mind that the electric car can take up to half an hour to fully recharge. Now, Parkland will have to plan the next steps to start building the new gas stations.

According to Parkland's senior vice president of strategy and corporate development, Darren Smart, the company has spent a good deal of time reflecting on where the industry is headed, and that there is no doubt that the auto industry is becoming increasingly electric. However, Smart said that when it comes to improving customer experience, the auto industry is still lagging behind as gas stations are located in bad areas and in dangerous places, leading to customer dissatisfaction as they will need to stay from 20 to 30 minutes stopped to recharge your electric cars in an external risk area.

The Scottish architect James Silvester, who was responsible for the project that won the challenge, highlighted in his presentation a model that is totally different from what we currently have, with the priority being the improvement of the customers' experience. The design of the new station establishes a long and linear structure, with charging terminals throughout its area.

In the central part, there will be stores and provision of other services, such as convenience services, as well as spaces that will allow drivers to take a break and relax, while their electric cars recharge. James reported that the new stations will need to adapt to customers, offering them some type of comfort and entertainment, as waiting for almost 40 minutes causes discomfort and irritation to the customer.

The new stations were designed with a modular system, which allows its structure to adapt to different sizes of terrain. The James-designed fueling station is expertly capable of providing an extensive range of services and amenities to the vehicle and its driver. The gas station will have food and drink options, an exercise area, therapeutic massage and also a garden, all for the driver to rest while his vehicle recharges.

Sustainability will also be a priority in the new posts of the future

The project developed by the Scottish designer and architect has the structure entirely made with sustainable materials, such as wood and stone, and on its roof there will be solar energy generating panels.

James pointed out that, with this new modular structure, the construction time will be much shorter and more flexible, being enough to make room for a wide variety of services within the station.
