'We structure the projects based on the Life Cycle Analysis (ACV), combining measures that establish the circularity of materials', explains Yuri Tomina, leader of Cazoolo.
Packaging Design Laboratory
Cazoolo provides a robust infrastructure for the production chain with a prototyping workshop, facilitating the co-creation of new solutions and businesses. 'Our focus is to develop packaging that reduces environmental impact and is aligned with design for recyclability, optimization of the use of reusable materials, refill systems and redesign of packaging through circular journeys', says Tomina. This commitment to sustainability has attracted several companies over the years.
Cazoolo has developed important projects for brands such as Vigor, Danone, Mars, Grendene, iFood and L'Oréal. In addition, it has also established partnerships with startups such as NutriGarden, Crilancha, Sallve and Niul. For transformers, the Lab has created materials in partnership with companies such as Extrusa, Aptar, Vellaplast and Diadema. The search for circular packaging shapes the programs developed with clients.
Circular Design Sprint and Other Initiatives
The Circular Design Sprint is a Cazoolo initiative that brings together a multidisciplinary team to develop sustainable alternatives. Using methodologies such as Design for Environment (DfE) and life cycle analysis (LCA), it is possible to create prototypes that are tested and approved by companies for later launch on the market. Another significant program is the Design Challenge, which existed at Braskem and had accumulated nine editions until 2021.
'The project began with the proposal to enable young designers to work with plastics. Since 2019, we have incorporated the concept of Circular Design focused on the development of plastic packaging', explains Tomina. The program aims to empower design students to think creatively and sustainably, boosting their careers.
Recognition and Awards
The Design Challenge program welcomed students from institutions such as IED (Istituto Europeo di Design), FGV (Fundação Getúlio Vargas) and ESPM (Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing) to work on projects with companies such as Raia Drogasil and Harald, and to develop solutions for Braskem. Since its creation, Cazoolo has accumulated numerous awards and accolades.
