CBA's investments in the plant in the state of São Paulo foresee the expansion, renovation and modernization of the aluminum production lines

Last Thursday, August 26th, CBA (Companhia Brasileira de Alumínio), announced that it will invest around R$ 2 billion with the implementation of new projects at the Aluminum plant, in the Metropolitan Region of Sorocaba, in the state of São Paulo. The disclosure was made by the CEO of CBA, Ricardo Carvalho, in a press conference, about the new moment of the company of the Votorantim group. Investments in the factory, in the state of São Paulo

According to Ricardo Carvalho, most of the investments of around R$ 2 billion in the Aluminum plant will be raised through the company's share offering on the market, which should generate jobs and increase production. “During the implementation of new projects both at CBA and at Metalex, which is located in Araçariguama, approximately 1,7 jobs should be generated, and after the completion of the projects around 350 permanent jobs”, highlights the CEO of CBA.

The investments foresee the expansion, renovation and modernization of the aluminum production furnace lines, as well as the updating of the technology used in the production line. “The factory had 7 production lines, the so-called ovens, but two lines had been stopped since the 2014 energy crisis, and now we are going to reactivate them, which should increase production”, highlights Carvalho. To produce aluminum, the company extracts tons of bauxite, which arrive every day at the CBA factory in Alumínio, coming from mining at its own units and partners.

Increase in the unit's production capacity

According to CBA data, the Aluminum plant currently has a production capacity of 350 thousand tons per year of primary aluminum. With the expansion, the company estimates that annual production will increase to 430 thousand tons per year. The current production capacity of transformed aluminum is 179 thousand tons per year. And the current recycling capacity is 235 thousand tons per year, considering the Aluminum plant and Metalex.

In addition to the approximately R$ 2 billion invested in the CBA factory in Alumínio, the company also announced that it intends to invest another R$ 2 billion in bauxite production in Pará, in the so-called Alumina Rondon project.

Termomecanica, a metallurgical company that transforms copper and its alloys into semi-manufactured and finished products, will inaugurate a new factory next month, this time focused on the production of aluminum bars. With an investment of US$25 million, the plant installed in São Bernardo do Campo, in the state of São Paulo, is estimated to start operating with a capacity to produce up to 30 tons of metal derivatives per year.

Contributions included the construction of the factory in São Paulo, the acquisition of equipment and the installation of new technologies. Currently, Termomecanica has a net worth valued at over 800 million dollars. The company's president, Luiz Henrique Caveagna, said that the focus of the factory is the energy distribution market. Today, Termomecanica can manufacture 80 tons of aluminum, copper and alloy products. “This new production line represents an increase in our portfolio, of rebar, bars and tubes. And our main niche is the energy market. Line expansion works and distribution are segments where we want to be present.”
