Last Wednesday (20), CELSE obtained two authorizations that inaugurated the final stage of implementation of the largest and most efficient natural gas thermoelectric plant in Latin America: the Porto Sergipe I UTE. The signatures that were obtained by the Company included the permission for the Pre-Operation of the first private LNG terminal in Brazil, allowing regasification and the movement of gas to UTE Porto de Sergipe I, issued by the ANP; and release of the four generating units to start Test Operation, with a total of 1,5GW of power generation capacity, issued by ANEEL.

UTE Porto Sergipe I should start commercial operation in January 2020 and its objective is to convert liquefied natural gas into electricity. The thermoelectric plant will have a capacity equivalent to 15% of the energy demand in the Northeast, adding great energy availability to the entire National Interconnected System.
With an investment of around R$ 5 billion in state-of-the-art technology, the project, located in the Porto de Sergipe I Thermoelectric Complex, in Barra dos Coqueiros, a municipality in the Metropolitan Region of Aracaju (SE), will boost the socioeconomic development of the region and generate job expectation.

A SESSION (Centrais Elétricas de Sergipe SA), a company created by the Brazilian company EBRASIL-Eletricidade do Brasil and Golar Power, was founded in 2015 for the generation and sale of electricity from gas thermoelectric power generating units. The company was victorious in the A-5 New Energy Auction in April 2015, establishing 26 contracts to enter into commercial operation in January 2020.
