Researchers have developed a revolutionary technology that allows lithium-ion batteries to be fully charged in just 10 minutes.
Another major breakthrough in the electric vehicle industry has been made. The Echoon Technologies and Switch Technologies introduced the world's first operational vehicle equipped with active anode material technology. But what does that mean?
O Toyota Land Cruiser Hybrid, Powered by Echion's XNO anode technology, it promises to redefine the standards of performance, safety and efficiency in applications heavy.
What makes XNO so special?
The niobium-based XNO anode material represents an evolution over traditional graphite anodes. In other words, it guarantees super-fast charging in less than ten minutes, even under extreme conditions.

- No Volkswagen, Toyota or BYD: Brazil's most modern automotive factory belongs to the company that is often overlooked by Brazilians
- Iron Dome: The incredible invisible wall that protects Israel from thousands of missiles and revolutionizes global defense
Additionally, it offers high energy density and a life cycle of over 10.000 cycles, translating into greater durability and lower total maintenance costs.
The company claims that XNO enables greater lithium-ion diffusion and ionic conductivity, factors essential for fast and safe charging of lithium-ion batteries.
This innovation makes niobium-based batteries the ideal choice for heavy-duty vehicles operating in extreme environments.
Strategic partnerships and scaled production
The partnership between Echion and Switch has resulted in the development of XNO battery modules and packs specifically for the hybrid Land Cruiser. The project, documented in a YouTube series, involved nine months of work and is now entering the testing and validation phase for industrial applications.
Large scale is ensured by Echion's collaboration with CBMM, a global leader in niobium products.
This year, both companies opened the world's largest niobium anode factory, with the capacity to produce up to 2.000 metric tons of XNO annually. This production is equivalent to 1 GWh of lithium-ion cells.
Electric vehicles – Niobium battery market expanding
Active-year technology is not unique to Echion. Switzerland’s Leclanché SA recently launched the XN50, the first niobium-based lithium-ion battery cell.
This innovation offers 50% more energy density compared to LTO technologies, in addition to supporting fast charging, showing the disruptive potential of the material.
The introduction of XNO technology signals a revolution in heavy-duty electric vehicles. With improved energy efficiency, reduced costs and faster charging, these solutions promise to transform the operation of industrial fleets.
