The new wind turbine with a cell phone price offers a monthly energy production of 150 kWh, making it a sustainable and reliable solution.

In recent years, the renewable energy sector has grown rapidly, and this evolution has now reached homes, making domestic generation of wind power a reality. With the launch of an affordable residential turbine, families can significantly reduce their electricity costs.

Developed by the Indian company Avant Garde Innovations, the turbine offers a monthly production of 150 kWh, ideal for meeting part of the demand of a small family. This technology is even more attractive when compared to the price of a cell phone: around R$4.900 (US$899).

Portable turbine is resistant to cyclonic winds, ensuring greater durability and reliability in challenging scenarios

Measuring 3 meters in diameter, the turbine, called AVATAR, stands out for its compact and efficient design. In continuous operation, the turbine is capable of generating up to 5 kWh per day, under ideal wind conditions with an average wind speed of 5,5 m/s.

An important difference in this technology is its ability to operate even with winds of just 1,4 m/s, in addition to being resistant to cyclonic winds, ensuring greater durability and reliability in challenging scenarios.

Wind energy: a viable and affordable solution for low-consumption families 

According to Raphael Amaral, professor of Electrical Engineering at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC), this turbine could be an interesting solution for many families, especially those with more modest energy consumption. “For smaller homes, this turbine could generate enough electricity to cover all monthly consumption, depending on the weather conditions and the use of electrical appliances,” says the expert.

Despite the great potential of the AVATAR turbine, some challenges need to be considered before opting for this alternative. Amaral highlights issues such as the space required for installation and the noise generated by the equipment. “Once these difficulties are overcome, the cost-benefit of residential wind energy can be very interesting, especially when compared to solar energy, which requires a larger number of solar panels to achieve the same level of generation,” he says.

Professional installation is essential for the success of the turbine

For those who wish to invest in residential wind energy, some technical guidelines must be followed. The system should not be installed in an amateur manner. The professor emphasizes that it is essential to hire qualified professionals to ensure the correct integration of the turbine, such as converters and inverters, into the home's electrical system.

Northeast stands out in the growth of wind energy and advances in offshore projects 

Located in the Northeast, Ceará is one of the largest wind power generation hubs in Brazil, accounting for 46% of the state's energy matrix. With 100 wind farms in operation, the state generates 2.577 MW of power and new projects are on the way. In addition, Ceará has emerged as a strategic location for the installation of offshore wind farms, with 26 projects awaiting environmental licensing.

The advance of wind energy in the Northeast highlights the potential of this renewable source as a viable alternative for several sectors, including residential ones. With the increasing accessibility of equipment such as the AVATAR turbine, more and more families can adopt wind energy and benefit from the savings generated by energy self-sufficiency.
