BR-163 surprises by reducing toll rates while the country faces increases! Drivers can now pay less after ANTT's decision. The measure promises to ease transportation costs and benefit essential sectors for the state.
While drivers from several regions face toll rates increasingly higher, BR-163 in Mato Grosso goes against the grain and reduces its rates.
The change, authorized by the National Land Transportation Agency (ANTT), promises relief for the pockets of those who travel along the highway from the early hours of this Thursday (7).
The measure comes as a rarity in a context where fares tend to rise, especially on Brazil's main highways. But what led to this unexpected scenario?
- Will fines be issued? Average speed radars are being installed in different locations in Brazil
- China blocks exports of critical minerals, putting the US on ALERT: Conflict in the $3 trillion market
- New Law means that obscene gestures in traffic will result in heavy fines and loss of points on your driver's license
- Forget traditional asphalt! Brazilian state innovates and uses more than 1,6 million tires to revitalize its highways
The decision reflects the annual tariff review approved by ANTT, which adjusted the amounts charged at toll plazas along BR-163, one of the state's main agricultural transport routes.
The responsible dealership announced an average reduction of 4,86% for every 100 kilometers traveled, which translates into a drop of about R$ 0,30 to R$ 0,40 at toll booths, varying according to the square.
Reason for reduction and values per location
According to ANTT, the tariff reduction is linked to an adjustment of deadlines for the resumption of works to duplicate BR-163, a measure that aimed to alleviate the financial impact on drivers until the highway's infrastructure is improved.
The reduced cost was positively received by drivers, who will now pay between R$5 and R$9, depending on the toll point they pass through.

The impact of the reduction for drivers
This new feature promises to benefit thousands of drivers who travel daily on BR-163, especially those involved in the transport and logistics sector, one of the most essential for Mato Grosso.
The highway, vital for the flow of agricultural products, concentrates a large flow of trucks and light vehicles, and any reduction in tariffs helps to reduce transportation costs and, indirectly, the prices of transported products.
Furthermore, according to market analysts, the reduction in tariffs may also strengthen the competitiveness of Brazilian agricultural products in the international market, as it reduces the cost of transportation to ports, facilitating exports and potentially encouraging more jobs in the logistics and agricultural sectors.
Long-term perspectives
Despite the current reduction, there are still open questions regarding the continuity of the duplication works, which have been halted on several occasions due to financing problems and administrative issues.
According to ANTT, the tariff review and the adjustment of deadlines for the return of works are part of a series of measures to ensure the viability of the project without compromising the amounts charged to users.
The forecast is that, with the progress of works, the tariffs can be revised again, considering the progress of the duplication work and improvements to the infrastructure.
Until then, drivers in Mato Grosso will be able to enjoy some relief in their pockets, while they wait for the promised improvements to the highway.
What to expect?
A rare measure in times of inflation and rising costs in Brazil, the reduction in toll rates on BR-163 in Mato Grosso stands out as good news for those who depend on the highway for work or travel.
But could this trend be repeated in other regions of the country? This will depend on the economic situation and future policies of ANTT and concessionaires.
Could the reduction in toll rates influence other highways to adopt similar policies, or is this an isolated measure?
Please!! Visit or travel along BR 153 in the region of Lins, Getulina and Marilia... expensive tolls C$ 9.40, the highway is completely full of potholes, several cars have blown tires, yesterday a car lost control and went the wrong way and crashed into the barriers. It's unfortunate to have to pay and not be able to drive safely. Please intercede for us!
