Chevrolet Equinox: new Brazilian SUV promises to sell like water and steal the place of Compass and Corolla Cross

Design and Dimensions

In terms of design, the new generation of Equinox is much more beautiful and robust. Chevrolet has adopted a new design line for its SUVs, inspired by its pickup trucks, which will certainly please Brazilians.

At the front, the Equinox features split full LED headlights in Piano Black on the RS version, chrome on the ELT and mixed on the Active, as well as a sporty bumper for all versions. On the sides, the car has an aluminum roof rack and a choice of 17, 19 or 20 inch wheels. At the rear, the integrated spoiler stands out, a different bumper finished in Piano Black or gray and full LED lights, which deviate from the current market trend of interconnected lights.

In terms of dimensions, the Equinox has practically not changed in length, maintaining the same 4,65 meters. However, the wheelbase increased by 1 centimeter, reaching 2,73 meters. The width is 1,90 meters, the height is 1,65 meters and the SUV is 120 kg lighter, now weighing 1.550 kg. The trunk is one of the most positive points of the new generation of Equinox, with a capacity of 847 liters.

Engine and Performance

Regarding the engine, the Equinox 2025 maintains the proposal of not being a super sports car. Therefore, the new generation is not equipped with the old 2.0 Turbo engine. In its place, we have a new 1.5 4-cylinder Turbo engine with direct fuel injection, which runs exclusively on gasoline. This engine offers a power of 175 horsepower and a torque of 28 kgfm.

The transmission can be a CVT automatic with eight simulated gears in front-wheel drive versions or an eight-speed automatic with torque converter in all-wheel drive versions. The SUV's performance is good, but not surprising.

As for consumption, it averages 12 km/l in the city and 13,5 km/l on the highway with gasoline. So far, Chevrolet has not presented any hybrid or half-hybrid configuration for the 2025 Equinox. However, if new options are launched, we will certainly bring more information in a future video.

Interior and Equipment

Inside, the Equinox finally delivers a dignified finish, with the entire upper part of the dashboard and doors covered in soft-touch material, in contrast to the hard plastic present in the current generation. The internal space remains excellent, providing plenty of comfort for five adults.

The list of equipment is also a highlight, with items such as a panoramic sunroof, in-person key with remote start, trunk with electric opening and closing with proximity sensor, Park Assist, electronic parking brake, traction mode selector and driving, inductive cell phone charging, LED ambient lights, Bose premium sound system, dual-zone digital climate control, electrically adjustable front seats, memory, heating and ventilation, gear selector lever behind the steering wheel, digital dashboard 10 inch and a multitude of other items.

The new multimedia center also stands out, with an 11,3-inch screen, native GPS, 360º camera system and wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

In terms of safety, the Equinox 2025 comes with a series of features that meet the current requirements of the category. It has collision alert, animal, pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane change alert, automatic high beam switching, rear cross traffic alert, braking for maneuvers, lane keeping and correction assistant, and blind spot alert. In addition, it has adaptive autopilot with stop and go function, among many other features.

Chevrolet Equinox SUV arrives in Brazil at the end of 2024

The new generation of Equinox will begin to be sold in North America from the second half of this year, however, its arrival in Brazil is only scheduled for the end of 2024 or, at the latest, the beginning of 2025. It is worth mentioning that, As the Equinox sold in North America is the same one manufactured in Mexico and sold in Brazil, if Chevrolet decides to keep the car in our country, it shouldn't take longer than the last quarter of this year for it to be available here.

Regarding prices, the Equinox is currently sold in Brazil in two configurations: RS, for R$225.700, and Premiere AWD, for R$276.500. With the arrival of the new generation, it is possible that the SUV will become a little more expensive, perhaps starting from around R$270.000 to R$280.000. However, the car is much more complete, which justifies a possible price increase.
