Progeco is a subsidiary of the French company CMA Terminals, a multinational in the maritime transport sector and, according to the initial contract, will operate and maintain its own container and general cargo terminal in a set of three operational areas.
This will not only guarantee new directions for the company in the port market, but will also contribute to the growth of container handling operations at the Port of Fortaleza.
The container terminal leased by the company has a total area of 88.499,75 square meters, a considerable size for Progeco's future operations in the Ceará complex.
Leasing the area is part of the Development and Zoning Plan for the Port of Fortaleza, which provides for a series of contracts signed to stimulate and boost the complex's performance in the regional port market.
The main objective of the plan is to guarantee new operations and increase the handling of containers at the terminal, but this is not the only result expected from the action.
Companhia Docas do Ceará hopes to guarantee professional qualification and expand the specialization of operations in the Port of Fortaleza, offering more quality, modernization and experience in activities.
Agreement between Companhia Docas do Ceará and Progeco will bring even more visibility to the potential for handling containers in the Port of Fortaleza
The Port of Fortaleza has an old vocation and growing potential in container operations.
Among the operations of great importance in the complex, the export of fruits in refrigerated containers (of the reefer type) can be highlighted, especially melon, exported by long-haul line.
In this way, the development of new contracts to increase the complex's performance in the segment will ensure more visibility for the real potential of the port in Ceará.
The director-president of Companhia Docas do Ceará, Mayhara Chaves, highlighted the importance of leases such as the one carried out with Progeco and the previous results in the contracts.
“In 2018, when I took over the management of Companhia Docas do Ceará, the leased areas were only 8,8% of the polygon of the Port of Fortaleza. At the end of 2022, we managed to more than triple the use of leased areas, reaching 29,4%. The leasing, among other advantages, should provide higher revenues and, as a consequence, solidify CDC's excellent financial situation, now recovered”, she said.
Companhia Docas do Ceará acts as Port Authority in the Port of Fortaleza and its purpose is to manage and commercially exploit the respective facilities, encouraging the growth of the port market in the area.
