Niobium solutions promise to revolutionize the Agro market in Brazil with positive results in plantations and low environmental impact

Niobium revolutionizing the Brazilian agro market! Agribusiness in Brazil is one of the economic pillars in the country and one of its main concerns is to protect crops and seeds from diseases, which can cause productivity losses ranging from 10 to 20%, and can reach 100% of production in some cases. , when there is no proper management. To control crop diseases, technological solutions are being implemented more and more by national agriculture.

The mining startup Nanonib® has invested in studies for the sector and developed the NanonibAgro® platform, the group's business division that will produce the first set of technological solutions, based on Niobium in the world, for the agro market: the compounds Nb41- B®, PNb-53® and NbS-12®, already patented, are just some of the various niobium materials being studied by the company. “Our objective is to develop technologies for agribusiness with high impact, especially for tropical precision agriculture. The technologies created result from more than 15 years of knowhow in research and taking advantage of the mineral characteristic of niobium and its availability in the state of Minas Gerais”, reveals the director of Nanonib® Joel Passos.

NbS-12® is the first advanced niobium hybrid material and will enable the agro market to protect seeds

Our niobium compounds – informs the Nanonib® partner and professor at the Department of Chemistry at UFMG, Luiz Carlos Oliveira – were developed using nanotechnology and are capable of eliminating fungi in plants (soy, corn, wheat, citrus, among others) and seed conservation. “We have already carried out several tests on plantations inside greenhouses and preliminary tests in the field with excellent results. It is also important to highlight that they are fungicides with very low environmental and human health impacts”, adds the professor. In addition, toxicological studies vitro were carried out and the results showed that the innovative molecules created by Nanonib® are highly biosafety. Accredited laboratory clinical studies have also shown that the compounds do not cause irritation, photoirritation and/or toxicity in contact with people.

NbS-12® is the first advanced hybrid niobium material and will allow the agro market to protect seeds for planting the following crops for different crops, such as corn, wheat, peanuts, among others, bringing more security to producers and innovation to the field . PNb-53® has a fungicidal action similar to Nb41-B® and also allows the delivery of associated macro and micronutrients for a better recovery of the developing crop. In addition, the Nb41-B® molecule is versatile and has its performance intensified under solar radiation.

Nb41-B® combats Asian rust, which is responsible for losses in excess of R$ 150 billion in soybean cultivation in Brazil in recent years

The result of the activity of the Nb41-B® compound has raised the company's expectations, as the material showed effective fungicidal activity. This national nanotechnology, of a disruptive nature, can contribute to the fight against Asian rust, champion of losses in food production, mainly in the soybean crop. The disease is responsible for losses in excess of R$150 billion in soybean cultivation in Brazil in recent years.

Nanonib® is part of the Agritechs group, technology startups for agribusiness. In Brazil, there are already around 300 companies in the sector with annual investments of more than R$ 100 million and use a series of techniques to increase production and agricultural efficiency. Investment in technology and innovation in agribusiness has grown and has been sought by producers as a fundamental tool for increasing the competitiveness of the segment in the world market.

The startup Nanonib® was created in 2019 in partnership with a group of private investors, and incorporates the success of scientific and technological studies of the various applications of niobium nanomaterials by research partners and professors at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). The company has an R&D unit and a production plant for advanced niobium materials in the Belo Horizonte Technological Park – BHTEC.
