The Fiat Punto is a popular car that arrived on the Brazilian market in 2007, as a 2008 model, to compete in the competitive premium compact segment, which already included the Volkswagen Polo and Citroën C3 and later began competing with the Peugeot 208 and Ford Fiesta. In this article, you will learn about the best versions of the model for less than R$30.

With lines signed by the designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, arrived in four trim versions and two engine versions – 1.4, 1.4 ELX (86/85 hp), 1.8 HLX and 1.8 Sporting (113/115 hp), all with hydraulic steering, on-board computer, electric front windows, electric locks , height-adjustable driver's seat, internal opening of the fuel tank and trunk.

For 2009, the T-JET arrived with a 1.4 turbocharged gasoline engine that guaranteed good 152 hp. In addition to the debut of this version, the rest of the Punto line would receive small changes, such as the expansion of the tank capacity from 48 to 60 liters.

In 2010, ELX and HLX were replaced by Attractive and Essence, in that order, and the 1.8 (8V) gave way to a new family of Fiat E.torQ engines: the 1.6 16V (115/117 hp) and 1.8 16V (130/132 hp). In addition, the biggest novelty of the Fiat Punto was the Dualogic automated gearbox, sold as an option for the 1.8 16V Essence version and in the following for the 1.6 16V Essence.

Another of the biggest changes in the history of Fiat's popular car took place in 2012, already as the 2013 line, with a slight restyling based on the European version, in addition to the debut of the 1.4 Fire EVO engine with 88/85 hp. The simplest Attractive already received front airbags and ABS brakes.

Those who want to trade in their basic hatchback for a more complete used one and don't want to invest a lot or worry about complicated and expensive mechanics, the Fiat Punto is a strong candidate. Fiat's popular car generally has a good supply on the used market and usually has very satisfied customers, partly due to the good cost-benefit ratio it offers.

The tip is to buy models from the entry-level Attractive version, launched in 2012 (already restyled), which gained more convenience and safety features. In addition, this year, it gained a 1.4 Fire EVO engine that gained more power, when fueled with ethanol, from 86 hp to 88 hp.

Consumption also improved, on average, by 4%, reaching 7,2 km/l in the city and 8,5 km/l on the highway with ethanol and 10,3 km/l in the city and 12,4 km/l on the highway with gasoline, according to data from Inmetro. These versions are usually offered for R$25 on average.

Points that should be noted when purchasing a Fiat Punto

Before buying Fiat's popular car, it is important to pay attention to some details. In the case of the 1.8 Powertrain, of GM origin, there are reports of a possibility of failures occurring, the origin of which would be in the potentiometer that activates the throttle body.

Another common complaint is the type of plastic on the instrument panel and door that scratches easily, in addition to the undesirable noises that spread throughout the interior, as reported by owners on forums and complaint websites such as Reclame Aqui.

With the chassis number, access the Fiat recall website and see if the unit has already undergone, if necessary, replacement or inspection of components such as the rear axle of models manufactured between 2009 and 2011.

I bought a Punto 1.4 Attractive, 2013. I bought it in 2022 at the height of the pandemic, when there was an increase in car prices. I got 40 thousand. I wonder how much I'll sell it for today...

I have had a Fiat Punto since 2007 and I have had all models and they all had a 60 liter tank.
