Correios announces the replacement of its fleet of conventional bicycles by 762 electric bikes, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability. As of August, these new bicycles will be distributed throughout Brazil, which promises to bring significant benefits to the agility of deliveries.
Greater agility in deliveries and reduction of CO2 emissions
With a coupled motor that amplifies the pedaling force, electric bicycles provide greater convenience and require less effort from riders, especially on long journeys and steep terrain.
Since the 1980s, bicycles have been an essential part of the Correios fleet, with around 40 postmen using this means for short-distance deliveries.

These postmen travel approximately 67 kilometers daily, contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions that would be generated by using motorcycles.
The action is also in line with the global concern with the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.
Since electric bicycles, like conventional ones, use clean energy and do not emit polluting gases.
Since 2013, Correios has been monitoring its emissions and, over 10 years, it is estimated that it has avoided the emission of more than 950 thousand tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) resulting from postal operations.
This Correios initiative is shared by several public and private entities around the world.
Renewal of the Correios fleet with 762 electric bicycles and other improvement projects
In addition to incorporating electric bicycles into its fleet, Correios has developed eco-efficient delivery options, such as Special Direct Mail, E-letter and Correios Lockers, which are nothing more than smart lockers for customers to be able to receive packages away from home. .
The results obtained with the use of electric bicycles will be evaluated.
And if the benefits for employees and customers are confirmed, the company plans to acquire even more electric bicycles as part of its ongoing modernization process.
