CSN structure collapses at the Port of Itaguaí

Accident occurred with a coal forklift at the Cargo and Bulk Terminal. Causes are being investigated

A structure collapsed at a Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional station, at the Port of Itaguaí, in Sepetiba, on the night of Tuesday, September 11. Three employees were injured. The company released 58 job openings last month for the city of Valença.

In a note, CSN Mineração Tecar clarified that the accident occurred with a coal forklift at the Cargo and Bulk Terminal, and that its causes are being investigated.

The mining company also reported that the three injured employees were properly treated and are now released.

A CSN Mineração is the second largest exporter of iron ore in Brazil and is among the five most competitive in the seaborne market.

The company owns the Casa de Pedra and Engenho mines, the Pires beneficiation complex, a stake in the MRS railroad and a captive terminal for exporting iron ore at the Port of Itaguaí (TECAR).

The company recently signed a contract to supply 10 million tons of ore to an Anglo-Swiss company

The agreement is an extension of supply with Glencore, since in February another contract already provided for the sale of 22 million tons over five years.

CSN released a note announcing that the contract foresees the prepayment of US$ 250 million to supply another 10 million tons of ore in five years.

The statement also said that: "This new installment already reflects CSN's better credit profile by incorporating lower financial costs and consists of an additional step by the company towards a healthy and sustainable capital structure, as part of its deleveraging plan previously disclosed to the market".
