The new president of Petrobras stated in a workshop that the issue of fuel prices in Brazil should be dealt with by the government. Jean Paul Prates believes that creating a value stabilization fund and increasing refining capacity are viable solutions.
Starting the week with major debates in the oil and gas sector, the current president of Petrobras commented this Monday, (30/01), on the problem of fuel prices in Brazil. According to Jean Paul Prates, this should be an issue addressed by the Federal Government and its entities, such as the ANP. Despite this, he believes there are two alternatives to the current scenario: a price stabilization fund and the expansion of refining capacity in the country.
Federal Government must deal with the issue of high fuel prices in the domestic market today, highlights new president of Petrobras
The price policy adopted by Petrobras for taxing its products in the domestic market has been criticized for some months by the current Lula government.
This is because the consideration of the values of a barrel of oil in the international market for charging in Brazil has been causing an increase in the prices charged for products.

Now, the new president of the state-owned company, Jean Paul Prates, comments on the matter.
He said at a workshop held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Regional Entrepreneurship Acceleration Program (Reap) that this is a government issue, not a state-owned one.
The former senator believes that the State and its entities, such as the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), must deal with the volatility of fuel prices in the country.
Even so, Prates is in favor of a dual solution, which involves creating a price stabilization fund and increasing the state-owned company's refining capacity.
He believes that investments in new refineries in the country could be the solution to the high prices currently charged for products in Brazil.
This happens because the country currently depends, for the most part, on imports of petroleum derivatives. This scenario ends up making the sale of fuel to Brazilian consumers more expensive.
In addition, the creation of a fund to stabilize the high prices of products in the national market could, according to Jean Paul Prates, contribute to the reduction of values.
In addition to the issue of fuel, Jean Paul Prates says that Petrobras will disclose new members of the internal administration later this week
The participation of the current president of Petrobras in the Regional Entrepreneurship Acceleration Program (Reap) of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) also raised other issues.
In addition to commenting on the subject of fuel prices and the role of the Government in the scenario, Prates gave a few words about the next announcements by the state-owned company.
He said that the new names of the Board of Directors (CA) and its executive board will be known later this week.
All these names will still have to go through the internal scrutiny of the state-owned company and the current CA. "There is yet another doubt, but, from today (30) to tomorrow (31), I must define the names", highlighted the executive.
In addition, he said that an energy transition board will be formed in a second moment, but that, currently, the biggest problem to be dealt with are the high prices of fuels.
According to Prates, an inauguration ceremony should only take place when all the names have been approved by the company in the necessary instances.
Until then, Jean Paul Prates is still in discussion with the current Government for new possibilities regarding the posture of Petrobras and the State in mitigating high fuel prices.
