The new beer that fights diabetes was developed by the Unicentro university, which is located in the south of Brazil, in the city of Guarapuava

Located in Guarapuava, Brazil, the State University of the Midwest got a licensing contract that guarantees the production of a beer capable of combating diabetes. Heimdall Brewery will be the company that will produce the new product, together with the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Paraná and the Unicentro Development Support Foundation.

The beer result came after 5 long years of study and research by students and professors at the university in Brazil, where they were finally able to arrive at the point that beer brings benefits to human health. The product is composed of bioactives from country rosemary, natural from countries such as Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay.

Beer, as said, is formed by the bioactives of field rosemary, which help in the reduction of blood glucose and blood fat, as well as reducing damage to the brain and liver of patients.

According to the biomedical doctor responsible for the study, Carlos Ricardo Maneck Malfatti, the license granted by the university for the production of beer greatly encourages science.

“When the market commercializes the results of academic studies, higher education institutions gain more resources to produce new technologies and innovations”, he says.

The beer developed at the university, in Brazil, can be consumed daily by pre-diabetics or diabetics, being called Rosemary, from the English “alecrim”.
