CNG corridors boost the economy and sustainability in Minas, with savings of 34% on Ethanol, 35% on Gasoline and 15% on Diesel, improving air quality.

CNG Corridors are essential for boosting economic growth in Minas Gerais, providing savings of 34% compared to Ethanol, 35% compared to Gasoline and 15% compared to Diesel. Furthermore, this technology also contributes significantly to improving air quality in the region, consolidating itself as a sustainable and economical alternative. for transport.

Adopting CNG not only encourages more conscious consumption, but also serves as an important vector of development. O Vehicular natural gas It is a crucial tool in the decarbonization of heavy fleets, promoting greater autonomy and sustainability. For these reasons, the use of Natural gas It is essential for the energy transition, benefiting both the environment and the local and national economy.

Competitiveness of CNG in July 2024

CNG became even more attractive in July 2024, generating savings of 34% in the cost per kilometer driven when compared to Ethanol, 35% when compared to Gasoline (in light vehicles) and 15% compared to with Diesel (for heavy vehicles). Minas Gerais, according to data released by the Federal Government, is the state that has the largest road network in all of Brazil. In this way, offering miners a fuel that emits fewer pollutants and guarantees greater savings in the cost per kilometer driven is Gasmig's objective.

Environmental Benefits of CNG

From an environmental point of view, CNG stands out for emitting significantly fewer pollutants compared to other fossil fuels. This directly contributes to improving the air quality and reduces environmental impacts associated with cargo and passenger transport. A infrastructure and technology provided by Gasmig ensure that, at CNG dealer stations in the state, light and heavy vehicles operate with CNG-powered engines safely and recharging efficiently on their routes. Furthermore, this technology generates a considerable reduction in polluting emissions, with a reduction of up to 30% in CO2 emissions and 96% in particulate matter, generating savings for transport companies and promoting a more sustainable future for both the state and the country.

CNG corridors in Minas Gerais

The Minas Gerais Company's continuous investments have allowed the creation of four CNG corridors that provide access to the other three states in the Southeast region and Bahia. These corridors include the BH-Rio GNV Corridor (BR-040), the Fernรฃo Dias GNV Corridor (BR-381), the Vitรณria GNV Corridor (BR-381/262) and the Rio-Bahia GNV Corridor (BR-116/381). The main objective is to ensure at least one CNG filling station every 400 km on the main highways connecting Minas Gerais to other states, reaching strategic regions. With this, Gasmig plans to reach three new stations offering CNG on state and federal highways by the end of 2025. In addition, the Company intends to add eight more stations by the end of 2026, as foreseen in the goals of the Second Periodic Tariff Review, totaling 71 posts.

Investment in heavy vehicles

The use of CNG in heavy vehicles presents itself as a promising solution for reducing operational costs and promoting sustainability in the transport sector, contributing to a more economical and environmentally responsible future. Automakers are making large investment cycles to manufacture CNG-powered trucks in the country. Sector professionals identify Vehicular Natural Gas as the main route for road freight transport towards a low carbon economy.

Advancement of gas trucks in Brazil

Gas trucks are a recent innovation in Brazil, despite having been sold in Europe since the 1980s. This reality is changing, with expectations of a rapid expansion of the service network. According to information published in 'O Globo', Anfavea, an association that brings together Brazilian automakers, registered 145 new gas-powered trucks licensed in Brazil last year, representing 0,13% of the total. In the first half of this year, 69 heavy vehicles were licensed, while 65,1 new diesel trucks were licensed in the same period.

Fuel Savings with CNG

When comparing CNG with diesel and similar fuels, we notice savings of up to 15%. CNG-powered cars and trucks stand out for their reduced costs per kilometer driven. Experts say that companies that replace their fleets with heavy vehicles powered by natural gas seek certifications that recognize a smaller carbon footprint, thus increasing their ability to obtain differentiated credit lines.

Growth of the CNG Vehicle Fleet

According to data from Denatran, until June this year, the mining fleet of 100% CNG heavy vehicles grew by 346,7% in the last five years. If we consider vehicles that use diesel/CNG, the growth was even greater: 850% from 2019 to 2024. Light vehicles that use Vehicle Natural Gas as fuel also showed growth in the same period, representing an increase of around 5,7%.

CNG autonomy and efficiency

Research carried out by the Company for the CNG scenario in July 2024 reveals that, by filling up R$ 100 of CNG, it is possible to travel 391 km, considering the average consumption of light and utility vehicles, with a cost of R$0,26 per km. In relation to heavy vehicles, the simulations indicate a yield of up to 419 km with CNG compared to the 345 km achieved with diesel.
