American startup uses artificial intelligence to locate one of the largest copper deposits in the world in Mingomba, Zambia!
A KoBold Metals, a mining startup funded by tech giants like Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos, announced the discovery of a gigantic copper deposit at Mingomba mine, located in Zambia. The company, based in San Francisco Bay, used artificial intelligence to locate the reserve, a significant milestone for green energy production, according to adventuresnahistory.
KoBold Metals has among its shareholders the Breakthrough Energy Ventures, an initiative by Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos and Michael Bloomberg, as well as other large investment companies such as Andreesen Horowitz, Bond Capital, Equinor ASA and T. Rowe Price Group.
Innovation in mining: AI in the search for deposits
The discovery in Mingomba it is the result of just over a year of intensive exploration. Using artificial intelligence, KoBold Metals was able to identify a copper deposit that promises to be one of the largest and richest in the world. Josh Goldman, the company's president, compared Mingomba's potential to the Kakula mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which produced about 400 thousand tons of copper in 2023.

Preparation for production
Before starting production, scheduled for the beginning of the next decade, KoBold Metals needs to publish an updated resource survey and finalize feasibility studies for the construction of the new mine, a project that could cost up to US$2 billion. Using artificial intelligence, the company is analyzing drilling data to improve exploration of copper and cobalt in Mingomba.
Global expansion and sustainability
In addition to Zambia, KoBold Metals is present in more than 60 exploration areas, spread across the Australia, Canada and the United States. With an increasing focus on sustainability, the company seeks to minimize the environmental impacts of its operations, using cutting-edge technology to ensure more efficient and less invasive mining.
The combination of artificial intelligence and robust investment is enabling KoBold Metals to transform the way copper deposits are discovered and explored, offering a promising vision for the future of global mining.
The future of mining
KoBold Metals' discovery at Mingomba represents not only a significant advancement for the company, but also for the entire mining industry. With the integration of cutting-edge technology and a sustainable approach, the startup is paving the way to a future where the exploitation of natural resources is more efficient and less harmful to the environment.
